What’s Hot in Home Décor This Fall 2018

September 2, 2017

Hard to believe it is the end of August. The days are getting shorter and there is a definite chill in the air in the evening.  Fall equinox begins on September 22 this year which is less than a month away! Are you ready to change Seasons? Here are a few highlights of the popular Autumn trends this year:

Number one is Texture,texture, texture.

The use of natural wood in decorating is everywhere and makes the room feel complete with the balanced look of soft and durable:

The key is to create a balance of contrast between softness and textured items. Creating a cozy room is mixing in soft and comfortable textures with layered rugs, chenille blankets, weathered woods and woven baskets and rough natural textures such as trays and ottomans:

And macramé wall hangings!:

Popular in flooring and kitchen cabinets is using cerused wood (also called “limed wood”)  which provides depth and texture for a look that’s worn yet polished. The finish blends seamlessly with today’s popular muted color palettes where gray is still popular:

Another textured item that is hot this Fall is Velvet being used for sofas and pillows:

As I mentioned here, the vibrant color of red-orange is being seen in accessories such as throws and pillows to transform a room into the cozy days of Autumn:

I took a few photos at Home Goods and Target today to show you how available these products are this Season:

Fur is still going strong as is the color navy blue.

Round mirrors are super popular right now! I have always loved round mirrors in a room to help break up the square, hard edges of the walls:

One more item I want to mention, is that all white bedding seems to be on it’s way out. Colorful quilts and comforters are becoming more prevalent in bedrooms:

These are not all new ideas and trends, just more popular for this Fall of 2018. Have you already incorporated some of these ideas in your home?

Have a great weekend everyone!  xo

  1. Hi Kelly, is there a Para paint that is similar to the Manchester Tan? It is more available here & is my painters preference.

  2. Hi Kelly
I have a grey sofa and. Brown lazy boy chair I’m trying to match a loveseat or 2 chairs do you have any suggestions please help

  3. In a new construction I’ve chosen White Viscon granite with white kitchen cabinets. I’m concerned about a paint color that will work in my huge open space that will include dining and living. All furnishings for these areas are warm Tuscany/autumn colors. I have Surya Caesar rugs 1053 and 1029. Do you think Sherwin Williams Anew Gray will work? What if I choose a darker color for the island and great room built-ins to tie it all together? What color would you recommend for that? Drywall people finish this week…please help!

    • Hi Jill,. I just wanted to write to let you know I received your comment on my blog. I would love to just give you a couple color names out of the hat, but I want you to get it right and right the first time. I would need to see photos of your home and ask you a bunch of questions before I can help select a color that will work best for you. If you would like to work together, you can email me photos and I can help you find a paint color. I charge $45.00 per paint color because of the time involved.
If you would like to work with me, please just write me a note here on my email.
      Thank you for writing!
