They are selling lottery tickets! They get paid for selling the tickets, but there is a lot of competition!There was a regular McDonald’s down the street. I can not read Spanish, but I believe this café sells only McDonald desserts!:
The city is very busy, crowded and loud. Here are a few shots of the food marketplace:
We did not get anything to eat in the city. One reason was because we could not read the menu: :)

I did enjoy visiting the city, but to be honest, I am glad we did not stay right in San José. You can not go out at night, real trouble I heard. When we booked our trip a year ago, we thought it would be fun to also stay in the city. But if I had to plan another trip, I would not. I would fly on the little puddle jumper and head straight to Drake Bay:
