Looking to paint the exterior of your home this year? One color I have noticed an increasing trend that seems to becoming more popular everyday:

That’s right. Black! I guess people like to try new trends because it is a popular choice right now:

Does it work on all homes? Absolutely not. You can not paint your 1990 ranch home black and think it will look updated. Black is so heavy you need a strong architectural modern home (with a lot of greenery), to pull it off well:

Do not think black is for you? Another popular exterior color is white on white and cream on cream:

I love the way the cream paint color works with the brown roof above. Perfect. Cream works well with brown and white looks best with a black or gray roof:

Just like our interiors, we are bringing the lighter colors outdoors:

Popular interior paint colors are becoming our new favorite exterior colors, such as Benjamin Moore Ballet White:

Did you notice what is missing from most of all of the white and cream homes? If you guessed stone or brick, you are correct. There is no bossy undertones you have to work around. You still have to work with the roof and window color, but no stone undertones.

Which is something else I have noticed in the newer homes- that not as much stone is being used on the front exteriors. Are people realizing that more is not always better? That too much stone might look too heavy? And too difficult to find paint colors to work with?

So we are moving away from the heavy gray exteriors into lighter and brighter colors. This also includes the greiges and light beiges that work so well with the stone facade. And don’t forget about black too!
