What Candice Says About Color

new neutralsCandice Olson- Design Superstar! And she is as nice and down to Earth in real life as she is on TV. She made us laugh with her jokes about her height, (over 6 feet tall!) her husband, her kids and even Chico. She told us that her ‘overnight success’ only took 23 years to achieve!candiceShe spoke to a small group of us last Saturday morning in High Point at my favorite store of the whole Market- Surya. I loved it and you would too. It was on my list to visit because of their accessories. Wow! It was an accessory superstore! Beautiful lamps, rugs, bedding, pillows, poufs, ottomans and so much more.surya pillowsHere are some of the highlights of what Candice had to say:She told us that today’s new neutrals transcend style. A core palette of cool grays through warm taupes and creams provide a versatile backdrop for any environment.neutralsWe are moving into a very organic phase in home design. The colors being used are a nature inspired palette. We want to bring the outdoors in! Neutrals can be light, such as grays and taupes, or neutrals can be dark such as brown.candice lroom

Her design style is using neutrals and layering the room with contrasts such as texture and patterns. Neutrals are non-committal colors so they bring a long life span to a space and easily changed with pops of color with accessories.Candice brings life to a room using combinations of light and dark, warm and cool and matte and sheen in paint colors, furnishings and accessories. She likes accessories in small doses that ‘tickles’ the room like pinks and oranges.Question Time With Candice:* What do you think of Benjamin Moore’s color of the year- Simply White?CO: I love it! It’s clean and fresh and works wonderfully with the organic and neutral palettes.* Is gray going to continue being popular?CO: Gray is still very popular and will continue to be a strong neutral.* What other colors are being used in the new neutral color palette?CO: Greige is becoming even more popular especially working with grays.* I actually raised my hand like an excited kid and asked her if she thought her Five Favorite Neutrals still worked well and if she still used herself?CO: Absolutely! I still think they are great colors and I use them often as well as in different shades.candice chair

It was really exciting meeting her! I do wish I had a better picture with her:candice and iI will let you know what she said about blues and blue-green color palettes in my newsletter next week.I’m not sure how ‘new’ they are, but what do you think of the ‘new neutrals’?  Gray and beige=Greige? Easy to decorate with neutrals? Too boring for you? Soothing? Comforting?I have to give a shout-out to my friend Julie for taking better notes than me!Hope you are having great weekend everyone!
