Painted Back Bookshelves

I am working with a local client and we are now moving into the living room for our next project:
I feel there is a real lack of color in the room with not much personality. Besides painting the walls, how would you try to bring in color?
If you thought about painting the backs of the bookshelves, I agree! I mentioned this to the client and he was not familiar with the idea. Some people need ‘visuals’ to help make a decision.So here are a few ‘visuals’ for him to look at (we agreed on blue):
