Don’t you love the carpet above? I have been seeing this tumbling block pattern all over the web. On the walls:

This pattern has been used for years by quilters. It is made to look three dimensional through color placement. It is really important to have distinct color groupings of light, medium and dark to create the effect of tumbling blocks. A perfect example of this is in the tile above.
