Mat Size Matters

One little decorating trick I love because it is so simple and makes such a big impact:

Is the size of door mats. The standard size front door mat is 30” x 18”. But here are a few examples using a standard size mat:

Such pretty doors but the rugs look too small and disproportioned, don’t you think so? The next rug size up is 2’ x 3” and 3'6" x 5'6". Now look how nice the front looks with a larger rug:

Often when I do a Resale-Ready® consultation, one of the first items on my list is suggesting buying a larger and more colorful rug to place at the front door. It makes the entrance to the home warm and welcoming before visitors even walk in the door:

I always suggest when you are using accessories, indoors or out, big is better! This includes the front door mat. Looking at the below photo, imagine how much nicer the entry would look if you use a larger, colorful outdoor rug:
