Hi Kelly,

Have just been reading your blog post about choosing the right white paint here. It was very helpful and I was pleased to see a photo of Acadia White which I'm planning on using.

We're remodeling our home in California and I'm looking for a white paint to use for the trim. I'm going with BM Acadia White for the kitchen cabinets (we have brown/beige granite). Is it OK to paint the walls Acadia White too?  I'm going with a shell/linen color subway tile splash back to help lighten up the room as it's a little on the dark side. The kitchen opens into our new dining & living room which I'm painting (walls) Acadia White.

With so many whites to choose from, I'm not sure which to use for the trim. And should the ceiling be another different white or same as the trim just in a different finish?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi Jennifer,I would use Acadia White for the trim also. The cabinets and trim look best in a semi gloss finish and the walls in an eggshell finish. That way they work perfect together and the contrast of the semi gloss against the eggshell works well.As far as the ceiling, have you thought about painting it a light blue? I have found choosing a paint color the hardest part of our remodeling thus far :(I have a love of all things white (I built my business Whiteport in Australia based on it) but the number of whites to choose from here in the US is overwhelming.Re ceilings, we only have 8ft ceilings and I'm trying everything I can to visually make them appear higher. I haven't heard of using light blue - what is your thinking behind that?I love Acadia White - it's very creamy and soft without being yellow and works well with our granite. I saw an entire house exterior painted in it on our recent trip to Carmel CA. It was gorgeous so I knocked on the door and asked the owner what color it was !
