What Designers Hope Will Go Away In 2022

Getting tired of a few trends? Home design trends come and go for sure. Styles that are all the rage eventually get overused and become outdated. Tired of seeing gray on walls, furniture??? As we head into 2022, there are several trends that we’ll be saying goodbye to if designers get their wish.

All Gray Interiors

Gray walls, gray sofa, gray pillows and gray carpet!! All grey with no personality. I still like gray, but I agree it’s overdone and time to move on. If I were to redesign the room above, I would bring in more wood furnishings, such as a coffee table, colorful pillows,( in any color but gray) and a colorful area rug.

Grayed Washed Flooring

Speaking of gray……This room above would be really pretty with light to medium, (natural looking) wood floors. Your eyes are being drawn down to the floor because the floor looks heavy-but flooring is supposed to work with the other elements in a room- not try be the star. Plus, in my opinion, (if you were wondering), the room definitely could use a larger area rug. This one is too tiny for the space.

Farmhouse Style

Farmhouse style is described as a cozy, comfortable, neutral color palette with a little rustic thrown in that began in 2015 with Johanna Gaines. I see the attraction to the peaceful,( but can be boring) look, but I think designers and homeowners are looking for more color and interest in a room for 2022. I would bring in a colorful rug, colorful pillows and colorful statement artwork.

Interior Barn Doors

I am 100% onboard with saying goodbye to sliding barn doors. It looked unique and interesting for about one year. Done. Unless you actually live on a farm.

edison lighting

Very dated looking. I never was onboard with these naked light bulbs. Too industrial looking for me. There are so many beautiful pendant and chandeliers out there!

Other trends designers are trying to get away from are word art on the walls, shiplap and open concept rooms. Remember, trends are just trends. Trends are not about changing your style, but offering you thought-provoking ways to see how design can change the way we decorate. I think trends offer fresh ideas in décor for everyone. And if you love it, keep it if it makes you happy! Your home, right?
