Inspiring Trex Deck Design Ideas

I have collaborated with Trex to bring you these design ideas for your back yard! It is the first company I have teamed up with my blog because I love their product. Remember before Trex we had those wooden decks which was always burning hot and led to a lot of splinter operations! Beautiful photos I found that will hopefully give you great inspiration for your outdoor project. If you want to learn even more, be sure to click on links in the blog.

Now that you've finished construction on your backyard deck, you might be wondering what to do next. Unfortunately, decorating outdoor space is a whole different ball game, and you might need some inspiration. So, check out these inspiring deck design ideas below to upgrade your deck from a blank slate to a fully realized living space!

Outdoor Dining

One of the best ways to make consistent use of your deck is by setting up an outdoor dining room. Weather permitting, you can use this space daily by relocating your family dinners outside! Find a nice spot with plenty of room and check out some outdoor dining table sets online. It would help if you also considered getting a dining table with an umbrella or some other overhang to protect you from any weather.

Second Story Deck

If you've built your deck to connect to the second floor of your home, you now have some additional options for what could go underneath! Many people opt to use this space to store outdoor tools, furniture, and such, but you can also make it into another outdoor space! Be sure to check out these under-deck patio ideas from Trex!

Open Air Sunroom

If you want to truly embrace indoor-outdoor living, you can construct your deck so that there is no height difference between the flooring surface inside and the deck that connects outside. If possible, you can install some glass doors that will open wide, giving you a natural airflow throughout the room. This will make the entire space seem like one big outdoor room, and you'll be spending more time "outside" before you know it!

Cozy Daybed

Sticking with the theme of lounging, consider taking it a step further by transforming the space into the ultimate comfort zone! You can turn this space into a relaxing getaway to spend lazy afternoons by simply including a daybed  with some great outdoor pillows. Whether hanging from an overhang like a pergola, or covered by a canopy, this is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors with the comfort of your living room.

Lush Landscaping

Great design often isn't great all on its own -- sometimes incorporating elements of the surrounding environment can enhance the architecture and help mesh with nature. One great way to accomplish this is by surrounding the deck in greenery, making for a secluded getaway! This is especially useful in urban outdoor environments, where you might want to section off your own private enclosure. You can also bring in lots of variety in your foliage for a bit of visual appeal and personality!

Outdoor Bar

A perfect way to make your new deck into the outdoor social space you've dreamed of is by bringing the bar to your backyard! You can construct outdoor bars separately, purchase one from a retailer, or even build into the deck's design! There are many great options out there for outdoor barstools and other necessities. So, take your summer parties to the next level!

Open Layout

You can also avoid convention from the beginning of the process when designing your deck for construction. For example, if you have a bit of space, you can try building a slightly raised deck (about 12 inches) without any railings and wide wooden steps. This will make for an open transition between the house to the deck to your backyard, making for fluid motion throughout! Of course, you'll also have even more space around the edges to bring in elements from other design ideas.

Sunken Features

Remember the sunken living room concept popularized in the '70s, where there was a slight depression in the flooring design, also known as a conversation pit? This concept translates surprisingly well to outdoor design, too! You can apply it directly by building in a small pit for a sunken relaxation space similar to a living room or choose to put a spin on it. Fire pits, pools, hot tubs, and gardens could all make for great attractions built right into the foundation of your ground-level deck!

Screened-in Porch

Another great blend of indoor and outdoor space is the screened-in porch. If you already have an outdoor deck, you can turn it into a screened-in porch with just a few steps. You could also choose to only turn a small section of your deck into a screened-in area, preserving the rest as strictly outdoor space. Whichever route you choose, this is a great way to get some use of your new space when the weather might not be quite optimal just yet.

So beautiful! I hope you all enjoyed. Thank you Trex for your partnership- I really enjoyed working together!

Thanks everyone! Have a great week!
