I think it is more than a coincidence that I have seen European White Oak flooring in two new home builds this week:

It is a very hard wood, not easily scratched, with a matte finish, and in a color that seems to be favored in the newer homes I’ve seen:

I think having a lighter wood flooring will look clean longer and not show wear as quickly as darker floors.

What do you think? Do you think this look will stay around for awhile? I love it’s qualities.  Plus NO undertones to worry about! I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Hi Kelly
I have noticed alot more white oak flooring everywhere on the online pictures (even noticing in some celeb homes!). What is the difference between European white oak and white oak left natural with just a clear coating?

  2. I’ve always preferred the white oak over the dark oak. Dark shows every piece of dirt/lint/animal hair. Like seeing more grey undertones vs. yellow.

    • Laura, I too want to see more of it in the midwest (i.e. North Dakota) but we seem to be years away from trendy stuff so, unless we do it ourselves, we won’t see it for some time 😉

  3. I think it is practical, but it doesn’t do much for me. I could live with the slightly darker versions here, but I don’t care for the washed out look or whitish (unless it’s in a beach cottage. Then I could live with it!)

  4. Naturall wood and white interiors is certainly a trend; one that we will see in about 5 years here in the midwest. Our homeowners are just now embracing the grays.

  5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I have a white painted oak floor in our master bedroom and wouldn’t have it any other way 😉

Yes, white (lighter) is FAR easier to take care of then a darker floor. The former owners of our home installed black wood look laminate in kitchen and dining area. While it’s very pretty it shows ALL the dust, hair (ours and our 3 dogs), every little footprint.

Since I have one of both (light and dark) I’d choose light any day 😀
