Tobi Fairley knows how important symmetry is in a well designed room:

One of the most important rules in decorating is using symmetry in a room for that balanced, serene look:

Symmetry is not just for the bedroom:

So if your room seems a little off, try using symmetry around your focal point and step back and see if that helps solve the issue.

Symmetry is naturally pleasing to the eye, don’t you agree? I love symmetry in a room and I love that balanced look. Do you know symmetry?

  1. I too am a lover of symmetry. What beautiful examples you’ve shown! There’ve been times when I’ve worked on someone’s room and see a beautiful lamp, vase, etc….only to find they have just one 🙁 To have had two to make up that gorgeous symmetry would have been divine.

  2. Hi Kelly, I was told by an Interior designer to never use the same matching set of lamps on your two nightstands – and/or in your living room beside the sofa, etc. But in a lot of your photos, you do use matching lamps. Is there a decorator rule or not? Just wanted to be sure. Thanks, Angie Perry, Greensboro, NC

    • Angie- someone sure gave you the wrong info! You should always match your lamps to create balance in the room. That is decorating 101!
