Quick Tip For Indoor Sparkle

January 17, 2016

Want to make your fireplace sparkle? Try using bottle glass accessories.

fireplacevia

Glass bottles are such pretty accessories by themselves anytime, but when the fire dances on the glass, it is a beautiful thing. (Unfortunately, every photo I took in the dark was blurry.) You just have to trust me on that dancing! 🙂

It is nice being able to find glass bottles not just at Pottery Barn anymore at $99-199.00 a bottle. I found both of these bottles at Target and Home Goods for only $12.00- 15.00 each!

What do you think? I tried this at my condo – I can’t wait until I get to NH and try this idea on the big fireplace! I love new accessory ideas, don’t you?

Guest Bedroom Update

June 14, 2014

[pinterest]I recently finished an online design plan for a family guest bedroom:

Mary Ellen wanted a new and fresh guest room for her parents who stays with her a few months out of the year. And she specified that she wanted the room to look pretty! Everything in the room was going except for the carpet and ceiling fan. It is hard to see in the photos, but the carpet has a yellow undertone.

I had suggested twin beds, which I think is a great option for guest rooms. She decided to go with a queen size bed. Here is her final headboard selection:

I wanted to brighten the room as much as possible, so I suggested white bedding:

With a beautiful, colorful duvet folded at the bottom of the bed:

I also suggested placing the headboard centered against the window to balance out the room:

She is going to look for a small dresser for the wall on the right above. One trick I use to save space in bedrooms, is to hang the tv up on a wall bracket and out of the way:

There were several different ways we could have gone to select a paint color using the duvet cover:

She decided she loved Benjamin Moore Lavender Wash CSP-515:

Especially with the window treatments she chose:

I wish I could fast forward and show you the after pictures! Mary Beth said she would share photos after she finished the room.

I think it looks marvelous! And so does Mary Beth which is what really matters. What do you think of the plan put together for the guest bedroom?

This post is for those of you that love looking at photos of Pottery Barn rooms that are painted in special colors for the Season. In previous years, Benjamin Moore colors were highlighted with Pottery Barn merchandise. I am not sure what happened, but Sherwin Williams is Pottery Barn’s new paint partner in creating seasonal coordinated rooms. Let’s see what you think of the colors:

SW 6244 Naval & SW 7566 Westhighland White:

Another pretty beige with red undertones.

Here are a few of the 2014 colors not featured with Pottery Barn furnishings but I wanted to you to see:

Swelte Sage SW 6164:

A beautiful green, don’t you agree? Swelte Sage would work well with stained trim and also oak cabinets.

Burlap SW 6137:

A nice beige but be aware of the green undertones.

Library Pewter SW 0038:

Can you see what the undertone above is?

Bradstreet Beige Bedroom

I recently completed an online design consultation for a master bedroom. The walls were newly painted in a soft, beige color – Benjamin Moore Bradstreet Beige HC-48:

HC-48 bradbeige

Bradstreet Beige is a designer favorite because it is a beautiful neutral color. Do you see the undertone of the beige? Yellow, red or green?

If you guessed red, you are correct! Should that be taken into consideration when looking for fabrics for the room? Absolutely. I would suggest using a beige fabric background rather than a clean white. That also applies to any bright, clean colors because of the clean/dirty theory.

My client needed help choosing a fabulous duvet cover for the room as well as  lighting and accessories. She did mention to me that she loves Pottery Barn, so I started my search there. I found this pretty Blythe Paisley Organic Sateen Duvet Cover & Sham in neutral which she loved:

And here is our design plan:

She is very happy! What do you think? The flower color can be used as an accent piece as well. A beautiful new redesigned bedroom.

Big Girl’s Bedroom

I recently completed an online design plan for a mom who’s daughter will be celebrating her thirteenth birthday in June. Mom wants to surprise her with a new bedroom look while she is off visiting her Dad for the weekend. We started with the duvet cover she found at Pottery Barn:

pb3

Isn’t it so pretty? Mom contacted me because she wondered if she should paint the walls in a white or beige because there is so much color in the bedding:

pb8

source

Definitely not beige, because we are working with a white background in the duvet (clean vs. dirty). Plus, I think painting a white on the walls would make the bed stand out too much in the room. We want a wall color that will enhance the colors of the bedding:

colorchips

source

There are a lot of colors to choose from in the duvet! But since the room is going to be for a young girl, here are a couple suggestions I thought of right away:

Ben Moore Faded Violet CSP-455:

faded violet

Ben Moore Pinot Grigio Grape CSP-460:

pinotgrape

Ben Moore Santa Clara 753:

santa clara

Ben Moore In The Tropics CSP-640:

in the tropics

Ben Moore Spa Day CSP-635:

spaday

I always give suggestions of colors that might look close in color because the next step is important where the home owner has to pick up samples and see which shade is working best with the actual fabric. Mom did not want to even look at lime greens which would also work. So we narrowed it down to these few choices and now it is her turn to see which color works best. I also gave her a safe color:

Ben Moore Nimbus Gray 2131-50:

nimbus_grey

A beautiful color but remember this is a teen’s room! I think we need some personality on the walls!

I am excited to see which color she chooses. I would love to help pick out other accessories for the room (mirror, little chandelier, artwork). Hint, hint!!

Which color do you think will look great on the walls with her bedding? I know she will be happy with any of the choices!
