Two More Color Options for Oak Cabinets

January 4, 2016

Yes, I do still suggest looking at green paint colors for your kitchen walls when you are working with oak cabinets, such as here. BUT, I thought I would share a couple other paint color options that also work well:

The paint color above is Benjamin Moore Firenze AF-225. Doesn’t it work well with the cabinets? A perfect compliment with oak or maple kitchen cabinets. I had chosen Firenze for our kitchen when we first moved in 8 years ago:

I was still happy with the color, but when we put in new granite counters and backsplash last year, I decided to also change the wall color for a whole new look:

I sampled many colors, (just like you!) before I finally decided to paint with Ben Moore Chelsea Gray:

I love it! The dark gray works well with my cabinets, backsplash and countertops. So if you are looking for other possibilities to work with your oak/maple cabinets, take a look at Firenze AF-225 or Chelsea Gray HC-168. Always good to have other options!

A little project I finally finished last week in the kitchen was covering a couple stools:

It really was not as difficult as I thought. I just took the screws out of the bottom of seat:

Then I laid out and cut the fabric, (fabric is same as window treatments):

I pulled the fabric tight and stapled. For the corners, I just folded like a present and stapled tight:

What a wonderful difference:

I love when those little details work out so pretty, don’t you? Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Benjamin Moore 2016 Color Of The Year

October 7, 2015

If you have not already heard on social media, Benjamin Moore has chosen the color Simply White OC-117 as the color for 2016.

Simply White is a warm white without all of those pesky undertones to worry about contrasting with. It is a very constant color and does not change in various lighting sources. A beautiful neutral that I am excited about!:

I read an interesting article from Architectural Digest today featuring Ellen O’Neill who is the creative director at Benjamin Moore and the mastermind of choosing the colors of the year, here. She stated when asked, how did white become a color of interest?:

We were in Paris at Maison et Objet in January, and we had just come off of a photoshoot all about whites. Then it was the summer of the white shirtdress. Even last week with the pope—another gift from the universe—you’re looking at millions of people lining the streets and you can find him. It’s strong. It’s directing your eye. It’s a beacon.”

Did you notice all the white on the fashion runway this past summer? A color always seems to appear in the fashion industry first, then it is brought into our homes.

Simply White OC-117 is cleansing and fresh. Why do you think so many people love white kitchens? I think it is because they not only love the clean, fresh, uncluttered look but also because a white room is never trendy or dated.

Kitchen Window Treatments

August 29, 2015

After looking for over a year, I have finally found the fabric I love to use on my kitchen windows:

kitchen fabric

I absolutely LOVE it! I had a vision in my head how I wanted the treatments to look but it took forever to find the right fabric which I wrote about here and here. I followed my own advice and asked for a sample to be sure it worked with the other items in the room such as the rugs:

One important factor was to not cover up the view:

Mission accomplished!

The kitchen was pretty, but I felt it needed fabric to soften and finish the room:

I am really happy how they came out. Budget Blinds is my secret. They come to your home to measure and then install the finished product.

I bought an extra yard of the same fabric for a table runner and to cover a couple stools. How do you think they came out?
