Bringing Spring in Early with Tulips

February 17, 2018

I went to the local grocer today and I found tulips for sale! I was so excited because nothing says Spring like a vase of tulips:

The only problem was picking which color to buy! All so pretty. I ended up with pink to use with my blue and white jars:Read More

Saturday Project- Restyling My Living Room

February 10, 2018

I probably should not show anyone, but this is what my living room has looked like since after Christmas:

living room before

Just a bunch of things thrown together after the Holiday’s.  I decided to make an effort to change up the room after I found this throw I fell in love with at Home Goods:

I don’t know if it was the color, which I have nothing of, but I just loved it and had to buy. My existing pillows, (which I have owned for about six years, just saying), did not look great with the new throw because they were too beige. The beige pillows with white throw below is a good example of Dirty and Clean together. They do not work well together:

Reminder Tip When Using Ready Made Curtains

February 3, 2018

I sometime wish I could afford to have all of my window treatments in the house be custom made. Wouldn’t that be nice to have someone to come into your home , give you great ideas on what would be the best look for your windows, measure and then come back and install these gorgeous, perfect window treatments? Who wouldn’t? Yes, there are custom window treatment specialist to hire, but the price is usually so high.  Right? I have had custom treatments done in my home but not often because of the cost.

So if you are like me, I buy ready made curtains. One tip I wanted to remind you of is when purchasing a pair of panels, always buy TWO sets, (two panels for each side of window). Yes it is more expensive, but the look is so much more pleasing, almost as if they were custom made.

Here is an example I am working on now. I did not follow my own advice and only purchased one set of two for my office window. Thought I could get away with only one panel on each side:

They look ok,  but not really special. Kind of chintzy is what I thought:

They just bothered me because I knew I could easily fix the problem. So I bought another set of two panels and tried them out:

Much nicer and fuller.

So much better, don’t you think? I might like to get a longer rod, or extension piece in the middle of the rod:

So I can extend the curtains more out toward the wall:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Winter Centerpieces

January 14, 2018

With all of the Christmas decorations put away in my home, (well almost all), everything looks so bare and empty. So I have been trying to think of ideas to use for a centerpiece on my bare tables. When I google ‘winter centerpieces’ all I have found are Christmas decorations or extreme wedding table centerpieces. I even looked at the florist department at the market today- no flowers, no anything!

I thought I had one good idea- forcing Spring branches indoors. But after googling that subject, I found it is still too early for that here in the Northeast.  A few of the early bloomers I love is Forsythia, Magnolia, Flowering quince, Pussy willows, Flowering dogwood, Lilacs and of course Cherry blossom branches!

There are no buds on our trees yet and normally will not be until late February- early March. I am definitely going to be on top of this project and will let you know all about it in a month or so!

One idea I have been seeing a lot of is cotton stems used in containers:

I really like the look! They are referred to as a farmhouse accessory, but who says I can’t use in my home too? 🙂Read More

Master Bedroom ReDesign 101- It’s Time for You!

January 6, 2018

Have you updated your master bedroom within the last few years? Does your room always get pushed aside for other projects? Well, let’s make 2018 the year for you to refresh your bedroom retreat:

Maybe you only need a quick mini-facelift with updated accessories. January is home décor sale month so now is the time to purchase new items.

But if you are looking for advice for a complete bedroom do over, this post is for you!

Step One: The Bed.

The bed is the focal point/star of the room. You must make it a statement piece to get that ‘wow’ look for the room. How?

Headboard: Do you love your existing headboard? Are you ready for a change? Have you considered using a headboard only, no side rails or footboard? This is a great choice if your space is at a minimum. I have been suggesting upholstered headboards for bedrooms because they give you the best (modern, classic) look at many different price ranges:

Look at the customer reviews to help narrow your search. Another reason I like using an upholstered headboard is that the fabric helps soften all the hard edges in the room, (walls, dressers, etc.) The color I suggest purchasing is an off white or ivory. Both will work well with both white bedding or beige bedding:

I try to steer away from beige headboards because beige has undertones, strong red or yellow, and may be difficult to find bedding to work well. Look how this headboard is ‘sticking out’ and clashing with the bedding:Read More
