Layering With Rugs

October 7, 2017

You already know that another great way to bring in color and texture in a room is through the use of area rugs. Now that we are headed into the colder part of the year and want to cozy up our homes, now is a good time  to layer another smaller, different textured rug over your existing rug:

Neutral or natural fiber rugs and carpeting, such as jute or sisal, make a great backdrop to all types of prints and patterns, helping to take some of the guesswork out of the layering process!Read More

For My Friend Liz: Ideas & Inspiration For Simple Fall Decorating

September 17, 2017

Not sure where to start decorating your home for Fall? I thought I would share my progress so far this year and give you a few simple ideas and tips on how to begin:

For every Season I decorate, I usually always start with a stress-free, easy to make centerpiece for my kitchen/dining room table:

fallbowl

It is such a great place to make a statement because you walk by often. To begin, I go around my house and gather items that I own that remind me of Autumn:

Brown and gold vases, acorns, pinecones, burlap, trays, faux flowers and wood bowls for example. Then I take everything off of the table where the centerpiece will be and start the arrangement with a large tray, vase or bowl. Then I fill with Fall items such as pine cones, little pumpkins, leaves, flowers, etc.

After in home shopping, look around outside for interesting fall-like branches, flower stems and ornamental grasses are a few great items to use in your arrangement.

Then it is time to go shopping! My first stop is a local farm for cool-looking gourds, bittersweet vines  and different sizes, colors and textured pumpkins. Then off to the grocery store for better priced flowers and small pots of chrysanthemums to add to the arrangement.

If you are just starting out, or want to update your existing Fall decorations, it is fun to shop at Pier 1, Michaels, Home Goods and Target to find fun Fall accessories and ideas. Then you keep everything and over the years you will have a box to pull out each Season of favorite Autumn accessories and memories.

This year, I started my centerpiece using an OLD wood dough bowl I love that I have had for years. I added pine cones, some little fall-looking balls I found laying around, a pumpkin I bought at the grocery store and a couple little faux greens for color and texture:

I then added a few other pieces to the table to make a lovely vignette of Fall items. I used faux floral stem in a gold vase I own.  Mr. Scarecrow was pulled out of his storage box. The chrysanthemums and hydrangea is from a local grocer. Feathers? Just for fun:

Very easy to put together and so pretty! I walk by it every time with a smile.

I also love using one of my favorite vases as a centerpiece:
