How To Style Your Nightstand

May 16, 2020

Good morning everyone! I know that you are probably not thinking about decorating your nightstand at this moment, but if you find yourself with a little extra time and feel like playing stylist, I have put together a few tips for you:How To Style Nightstand Pro3

    • Design: It’s important to start with a good foundation — the nightstand itself! Choose a nightstand with a drawer and/or lower shelf so you can hide the clutter and stack your books and magazines underneath.
    • Lighting: Lighting in a bedroom is key, as you want to create a warm and gentle ambiance to set a calm environment for bedtime. I always make sure the lamp is on a dimmer so that it can be used for reading in bed as well as mood setting on a low level. Make sure that the scale is appropriate for the space you have. Choose a lamp that doesn’t take up the entire nightstand.
    • Mirrors: If your room is small, a mirror mounted on the wall behind the nightstand can make the room feel bigger.
    • Jewelry box: A box or small plate to hold your ring, watch and trinkets is important to help keep your bedside table organized.
    • Family photos: Having one professional photograph of a special milestone like a wedding or newborn photo is a nice way to remember the important people in your life. Make sure the frame doesn’t overpower the picture. Sterling silver frames are simple and will match with anything else you use on nightstand.
    • Clocks: So beautiful and functional too!
    • Books: Choose some pretty books,  it can be color or subject that attracts you and make a neat little stack.
    • Personal touches: Add something a little whimsical or sentimental. Those little pieces make a nightstand go from boring to perfectly styled!
    • Add a plant: Plants are continuously evolving accessories that you can customize over time. Not only do they look great, but they also create better air quality. Too much work? Go for a beautiful faux plant or flowers.
    • Trays are your friend: If you have the space, a tray will add visual interest and help to corral things like small bowls, a water glass and/or bud vase.
    • Keep it simple: Clutter has a way of stressing us out. Make sure your nightstand has built-in storage for all of your bedside accessories. Leave the top for essential accessories like a clock, lamp and pretty stuff.

New Home Projects Completed

April 25, 2020

We are happy with the way our living room is progressing:

Living Room

Living room Flowers

These color are so me- pinks and blues.  I have always loved blue since I was little. Can you tell I love raspberry too? 🙂

The walls you see in the above photos are much closer to the actual paint color. My friend helped me lighten to be more accurate.

Here is a Before::old living room

These cherry blossom branches from the yard were beautiful! I just wish they lasted longer. Barely a week and I had to throw them out.

We also painted a bedroom accent wall. The room is just so big that I am making various ‘vignettes’ around the room . Remember I was looking for colors?:

bedroom testing

I am glad I tested because I thought Ben Moore Scenic Drive 697 would be the right choice, but after I compared with the next color on up paint strip, Pleasant Valley, it was a bit too dark. So Pleasant Valley 696, the lighter one, was the one we selected.

Sampling Bedroom Wall Colors and Sneak Peek of Our Living Room

March 21, 2020

Hey everyone! I hope you  (and your loved ones) are staying healthy and taking care of yourself during this difficult time. I thought I would share a few decorating projects I have been working on at home:

Choosing a paint color for bedroom wall:

I love our new bedroom that has lots of space, but it seemed to need some drama, something bold to showcase and highlight the room so we decided to paint the wall behind the bed. I wanted to find a color that would bring out the light green in the comforter:

Because colors show up lighter on walls than paint chip sample, I thought Benjamin Moore Scenic Drive 697 would be a good color to start with. Following my own rules I preach to you all, I stopped and picked up  a sample can and painted a poster board with Scenic Drive:

I did love the medium color with the dark wood of the bed, but I wanted to try a step up lighter to sample- Ben Moore Pleasant Valley 696:

And here are the two samples together. Pleasant Valley is on the left:

Pleasant Valley is the winner! Trying to take full advantage of my husband being home, he said he would paint this weekend- wow! Mike had a great idea- we are going to call the paint store, if they are open, and order the paint on the phone and pay for it. We will let the store know we are on our way to pick up and they can leave it outside by the door for us. Trying to keep going in this crazy time and have to be creative with thinking.  I will have after pictures of the bedroom next week to share.

Project Three: Last weekend I got Mike to paint one wall in our living room. (He is my hero lately!)  The same problem I was having with needing some interest and drama in the bedroom, I really felt it in our living room. Just kind of boring. I thought about wallpaper:

But it was going to be soooo expensive and time consuming. Plus I thought it might be too busy for the room.  Paint to the rescue! I am loving pinks and navy lately so why not paint it pink? haha:

I absolutely love it! Very subtle and beautiful. Mike likes it too. Here is a concept board I had fun putting together for our living room decorating plans:

I just ordered the fuchsia pillows today online. Can’t wait to share when room is completed!

I hope you are enjoyed! Let me know what you think of my color choices, love to hear! Thanks for stopping by.

Stay safe my friends!

Trending: Mustard Yellow Both In Fashion & Home Décor

March 7, 2020

Interesting color, isn’t it? Reminds me of a Fall color, but I have been seeing this color everywhere in clothing and home accessories!  A richer version of yellow, mustard adds warmth to a room without being too loud or bright. In many ways it can be treated the same as a neutral like beige or cream.

The colors are not as bright as normal yellow but nice if you want to add bright colors into your home that still feels warm. Read More

Using Artwork as a Starting Point for Selecting Color Palette

January 4, 2020

Isn’t it so difficult trying to find a new color palette, especially for your own home?! One of the best ways I have found for a starting point is your artwork:

blue art

I have been looking online for new art for over the sofa, but nothing has been exciting me.  Then I found, (in our basement in a pile), this print I already own that I think will work well. I love navy and it is my common color throughout my home. I wanted to find a new color to bring in and I since I love pink so much and it is in the artwork……Read More
