Purple Living Room Design

I just finished a living room design plan for a client and wanted to share with you. Margaret was ready to update her room from boring to beautiful!

We started by working around her new sofa:

Through emails, I found out she loved purple, but was afraid the room would look childlike. I assured her it would not and sent her this picture of a rug to show her how grown up the color was today:

I do not think purple looks childlike. Do you? I have been seeing more and more of the purples, lilacs, violets, plumĀ and orchids in interior design. I love it!! How about you?

  1. I think the darker purples are more sophisticated than the lavenders of yesterday.. I am not a purple fan per say but it’s growing on me, especially when paired with gray..
This board looks great and I’m sure your client is going to be thrilled with the outcome!

  2. Kelly, the board is beautiful – where did you find the pillow with the quote on it – I wonder if that comes in other colors? The sofa (on my screen looks like a rich brown). I cannot see the purple hue – can’t wait until you post the finished room! Have fun!

  3. Beautiful board Kelly. I like limited does of purple in a deeper hue. Not a fan of red based purples. I know purple is trending so I think we will all be seeing a great deal of it.

  4. Not a huge fan of purple, but love it when paired with green and gray. Love the deeper plums compared to the lavenders and lilacs- those are great but only in very small doses! The board looks wonderful!

  5. Have to admit I cringed at the thought of a purple living room. Its never been one of my favorites but when you try to “give the lady what she wants” you can steer her to the best version of her request. No need to go painting all the walls purple! I have to say you pulled it off with grace and sophistication!

  6. Really love your board – it’s lively and energizing and happy looking. It’s a room that I would want to be in unlike Gray which makes me want to cry. Sorry, I find gray to be dismal and depressing. There is a psychology of color and gray affects me very negatively. Decorate with what makes you happy to be there.
