Kelly’s Five Favorite Neutrals

February 29, 2016

I have finally narrowed my top list of neutral paint colors that I frequently use! I feel confident about my top choices, which are also my favorites, and I want to share my color advice with you.

My list of favorite neutrals, in no particular order:

Revere Pewter HC-172:

I can’t seem to get enough of this color. It is a beautiful light gray in brightly lit rooms and a pretty soft beige in rooms with low light. Gorgeous and happy!

Grant Beige HC-83:

My favorite beige paint color. A soft and subtle neutral. This color works well with both white and stained trim. You can read more about this favorite color here.

Cloud White OC-130:

Hard to choose one white. This is not a white for all instances, but works well with many color combinations.

Hale Navy HC-154:

Another favorite color that works so well with both white and with stained trim.

And last but certainly not least..

Gray Owl OC-52:

A very soft gray with just a slight undertone of blue:

All of these five colors can also be used together as well. For instance, Grant Beige would be a pretty entry color, with  an office off the hall in Hale Navy, kitchen in Cloud White, living room in Revere Pewter and master bedroom in Gray Owl just for one example. These are also my perfect staging colors that I use often!

It was a hard for me to narrow down the list to my favorites. So many other beautiful colors out there! Do you have a top list of colors? I would love to hear them!

  1. Nice colors. My kitchen cabinets are cloud white as is most of the trim in my house. My master bathroom is Revere Pewter and my bureau is Hale Navy. I’m thinking of painting my son’s room Gray Owl. My favorite colors are Manchester Tan or Feather Down which Maria Killam says is the lighter version of Manchester Tan. Manchester Tan isn’t that far off Grant Beige.

  2. What a gorgeous palette! You could use those five colors throughout a home, creating a cohesive space that worked in harmony.

  3. Beautiful – I just painted a large sample of Gray Owl to study for my kitchen and breakfast room, have been torn between that and a greenish tint like November Rain or Halo, wondering if a color might better with my dark stained cabinets. The beige could be just what I need for the laundry room.

I’m agog at the Hale Navy wall with a white ceiling — what a crisp line they have at ceiling level. So hard to do!

  4. I clicked on the white pedestal dining table and chairs …. And lost it.
Please e mail the link to table and chairs.
    I want it.
The caption read something like ” lovely place to have morning coffee”

  5. I’m painting my living, foyer, master bed and kitchen revere pewter. I need to pick out a white for trim color and ceiling color for entire house. I like the edgecomb gray for the ceiling in the living since the room has an entire south-facing wall of windows. The wood floor is medium to dark finish. Whatever ceiling color should be ok in other rooms with color on the walls other than revere pewter. I originally thought the ceilings would be SW High Reflective white and trim would be SW Pure White but backing off now thinking it’s too white. Thanks

  6. I am deciding between Revere Pewter and BM Rodeo 1534. Have you ever used Rodeo? I am looking for a warm grey but am afraid Revere Pewter may look beige. We are doing our whole downstairs one color, it’s a very open floor plan but one room is quite a bit darker than the other. The kitchen is being remodeled with white cabinets and a dark grey island. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    • Hi Brittney- the Revere tends to look beige in darker rooms. But that is the same with the Rodeo. The trouble I have seen with Rodeo is that the green undertones are strong, especially when light is low in a room.
      Hope this helps!

  7. I’m going to paint my walls linen white and I’m considering cloud white for the trim. I saw your comment about cloud white and wondered what your thoughts are about this combination. I get a lot of natural light.

What are the undertones of cloud white? Is it considered a warm or color color?

Thanks for a great post! Connie

    • Hi Connie.Linen white is beautiful with a bit of yellow undertones. Cloud White does not have undertones like the other whites- warm and neutral. For a trim color with Linen White, I would also look at a brighter white such as Simply White to get a nice contrast. Just an idea!

  8. Connie,
In our family room we are going to paint and accent wall hale navy around a white fireplace. We are looking for a light gray for the other walls which will extend into our kitchen. Any recommendations?

    Jack

    • Hi Jack- who’s Connie? 🙂 Do you have a lot of sunlight in the room? Revere Pewter is a popular, beautiful light gray. Another light gray to look at is Ben Moore Gray Owl. Be sure to paint on poster board and move around to be sure you love before you paint!
