Did You Know?

August 25, 2018

Thinking of decorating lately? Me neither. It is just that time of year when you can become overwhelmed with September right on our heels.  September means back to school, working becomes a priority again, summer starts to wind down, weeknights out are not so easy to plan, etc. etc. So, I am not giving you much to think about today. Since the great response on my last ‘Did You Know’ series, I thought I would again share with you  more hints and tips on a variety of subjects you may or may not know.

Did you know??

*  This is the time of year when sunflowers are in bloom and abundant.  Why don’t you make a beautiful table centerpiece with them?  I think they are especially gorgeous when mixed with blue flowers:

Amazing Alaskan Adventure

August 18, 2018

Are you wondering how I was fortunate enough to take a dream vacation to Alaska? It is all thanks to my Mom and Dad. It was supposed to be their 60th wedding anniversary present to each other last year but my Dad passed away a couple months before the trip was taken, so my Mom invited my sisters and I to go in memory of him. The trip was fourteen days- seven days relaxing on a cruise ship and then spending seven days in the wild,(kind of wild- not as luxurious as the cruise, haha). Here is a photo of me, my Mom and sisters in Juneau Bay:

I thought I would share a few of my favorite photos from our trip for those thinking of taking the trip to Alaska.  Glacier Bay was breathtaking:

Steps When Planning a Kitchen Renovation 101

July 28, 2018

This summer I have been working with a local couple on their complete vacation home makeover. They decided to start with the kitchen and wanted me to discuss the right steps to follow when planning a complete redo of their kitchen. My first suggestion to them was to find a contractor to work with. That is not easy I know! The contractor will be able to hire the sub-contractors needed for demolition, electrical work, plumbing, permits, etc. Meanwhile, you will have to chose the components that are going into the new space and if you want to avoid stress later, these steps will help guide you in the overall process.

They are redesigning the kitchen area top to bottom. Here is a before photo:

Step One for the Kitchen:

As I tell all of my clients, their first big decision should be the countertop. (the most expensive item in the room and least amount of selections.) Right now both quartz and granite are still the most popular choices. My biggest tip when buying a new countertop is to GO to where the stone is whole. You can look at the little samples and online to get an idea of what you like, but you must go to stone yard to choose your large piece for counters to see exactly which piece you are getting because every piece is unique:

Christmas in July!

July 21, 2018

I just had the best weekend ever! When I was growing up in Ohio, I had four great friends I hung around with in school, girl scouts, church and everything else important in our 8-14 year old lives:

I am on the left if you could not guess. What do you think of my orange plaid pants? LOL I moved away from my group of friends when I was only 14 years old. Went clear across the country to MA with my family where I am still around. It was a very hard time.

But can you believe that this past weekend, after 45 years! we got together here at my home in NH! We clicked right away again and brought up old memories and laughed and laughed and laughed all weekend!

We are reversed in order from the first photo. Such a great time we had. Somehow we starting talking about  parties. Did you all ever hear of a Christmas in July party?

Updating Your Trim/Molding

July 14, 2018

Are you wanting to change your look in a room, but stained molding is stopping/preventing you from getting the fresh, clean and updated look you are yearning for? I have another solution. No, I am not talking about gorgeous historical or custom made trim work like this:

I am talking about the too small and thin stained molding that looks like eyeliner on the top and bottom of your wall:
