Winter Scene with Apothecary Jar and Faux Snow

December 4, 2017

Something I started playing with last Christmas while decorating and really enjoyed was snow-filled apothecary jars and cloches:

I have always loved cute little miniature accessories so this project was right up my alley. Simple and festive!

You can see last years faux snow projects here.

It is literally a 5 minute project. For supplies you need faux snow (or salt or baking soda works too), an apothecary jar or cloche, a few mini trees, and mini sleigh or any other miniature figurine:

All you do is, cover the base of the jar/cloche with craft snow, add the mini trees and  figurine, and the sprinkle some more craft snow on your winter scene. Told you it was easy!

Here are a couple snow scenes I made this year:snowmanRead More

Simple and Beautiful Thanksgiving Centerpieces

November 18, 2017

Looking for ideas on putting together a quick and easy centerpiece to show off on your Thanksgiving table?:

table setting

If you’re anything like me, by now you have barely wrapped your head around the idea that Thanksgiving is around the corner. I was searching for ideas to decorate my own table and here are a few ideas I  gathered together for tips and inspiration:

Seems easy to make with a small basket of pine cones and greens. It looks so elegant, doesn’t it?

Here are different sized candles layered on top of faux  leaves looking pretty.  I can do that:

Love this idea!:

I like that it is unique and because it is on a tray that you can easily pick up and move if you have to. Also looks pretty easy to put together.

This is one of my all time favorite table centerpieces:

If you look closely, you can see how simple it really is to make. (Sure Kelly, why don’t you whip one up right now?)

I like the above table setting, simple and easy to move if necessary.

I’ve always felt that a simple and natural approach feels both festive and genuine.

For My Friend Liz: Ideas & Inspiration For Simple Fall Decorating

September 17, 2017

Not sure where to start decorating your home for Fall? I thought I would share my progress so far this year and give you a few simple ideas and tips on how to begin:

autumn1

For every Season I decorate, I usually always start with a stress-free, easy to make centerpiece for my kitchen/dining room table:

fallbowl

It is such a great place to make a statement because you walk by often. To begin, I go around my house and gather items that I own that remind me of Autumn:

fall supplies

Brown and gold vases, acorns, pinecones, burlap, trays, faux flowers and wood bowls for example. Then I take everything off of the table where the centerpiece will be and start the arrangement with a large tray, vase or bowl. Then I fill with Fall items such as pine cones, little pumpkins, leaves, flowers, etc.

After in home shopping, look around outside for interesting fall-like branches, flower stems and ornamental grasses are a few great items to use in your arrangement.

Then it is time to go shopping! My first stop is a local farm for cool-looking gourds, bittersweet vines  and different sizes, colors and textured pumpkins. Then off to the grocery store for better priced flowers and small pots of chrysanthemums to add to the arrangement.

If you are just starting out, or want to update your existing Fall decorations, it is fun to shop at Pier 1, Michaels, Home Goods and Target to find fun Fall accessories and ideas. Then you keep everything and over the years you will have a box to pull out each Season of favorite Autumn accessories and memories.

This year, I started my centerpiece using an OLD wood dough bowl I love that I have had for years. I added pine cones, some little fall-looking balls I found laying around, a pumpkin I bought at the grocery store and a couple little faux greens for color and texture:

I then added a few other pieces to the table to make a lovely vignette of Fall items. I used faux floral stem in a gold vase I own.  Mr. Scarecrow was pulled out of his storage box. The chrysanthemums and hydrangea is from a local grocer. Feathers? Just for fun:

Very easy to put together and so pretty! I walk by it every time with a smile.

I also love using one of my favorite vases as a centerpiece:
