Sampling Bedroom Wall Colors and Sneak Peek of Our Living Room

March 21, 2020

Hey everyone! I hope you  (and your loved ones) are staying healthy and taking care of yourself during this difficult time. I thought I would share a few decorating projects I have been working on at home:

Choosing a paint color for bedroom wall:

I love our new bedroom that has lots of space, but it seemed to need some drama, something bold to showcase and highlight the room so we decided to paint the wall behind the bed. I wanted to find a color that would bring out the light green in the comforter:

Because colors show up lighter on walls than paint chip sample, I thought Benjamin Moore Scenic Drive 697 would be a good color to start with. Following my own rules I preach to you all, I stopped and picked up  a sample can and painted a poster board with Scenic Drive:

I did love the medium color with the dark wood of the bed, but I wanted to try a step up lighter to sample- Ben Moore Pleasant Valley 696:

And here are the two samples together. Pleasant Valley is on the left:

Pleasant Valley is the winner! Trying to take full advantage of my husband being home, he said he would paint this weekend- wow! Mike had a great idea- we are going to call the paint store, if they are open, and order the paint on the phone and pay for it. We will let the store know we are on our way to pick up and they can leave it outside by the door for us. Trying to keep going in this crazy time and have to be creative with thinking.  I will have after pictures of the bedroom next week to share.

Project Three: Last weekend I got Mike to paint one wall in our living room. (He is my hero lately!)  The same problem I was having with needing some interest and drama in the bedroom, I really felt it in our living room. Just kind of boring. I thought about wallpaper:

But it was going to be soooo expensive and time consuming. Plus I thought it might be too busy for the room.  Paint to the rescue! I am loving pinks and navy lately so why not paint it pink? haha:

I absolutely love it! Very subtle and beautiful. Mike likes it too. Here is a concept board I had fun putting together for our living room decorating plans:

Here is a sneak peek of our progress:

I just ordered the fuchsia pillows today online. Can’t wait to share when room is completed!

I hope you are enjoyed! Let me know what you think of my color choices, love to hear! Thanks for stopping by.

Stay safe my friends!

Attention All Paint Testers! Before & After Photos

November 2, 2019

For those of you who are not testing your paint colors the correct way, you are just making an already stressful project into an even more difficult decision.  I know it is easier, I get that. But, when you test the new color samples by painting right over the existing painted walls:paint testing

You are not seeing the new color in it’s true hue. This is exactly what happened recently to a client who wanted to paint her beautiful, large, open concept new home:

She knew exactly what look she was going for, but could not find THE color and was going crazy. She stated that she did not like the peach walls from the previous owner and had tested a few favorite paint samples she thought might work:

So she hired me to help her find a perfect color. I gave her a couple suggestions of paint colors but I also told her, “Maybe one reason you are having a hard time selecting a color is how you tested the color. When you paint samples right on wall, the existing color of wall affects the color and will not be the same. The best way to sample is too paint a poster board, two coats like you will for walls, and move all around day and night to different spots. You should use a white plain piece of paper between sample and existing wall color so all you see is the actual sample color. More work I know, but pretty accurate. Be sure to put white paper between new color sample and existing wall color. That peach will really throw you off!

After a few days she wrote:

Hi,

After you suggested the paint card it changed everything Lol

I went with Repose gray. I’m glad I did that!:

What a beautiful transformation! The magic of paint! I know I repeat myself over and over about testing the correct way, but it is that important. Please take the extra time and extra steps and you will be a color expert also! Let me know if you have any questions about correctly testing paint samples in your home.

I also wanted to share a new eDesign mood board I am working on in Photo Shop:

Hard to learn but I am having so much fun with it. Have a great weekend everyone!

Fireplace Wall Design Ideas

August 10, 2019

Mike and I are in the fireplace wall design stage for the new home. I like to get a few ideas together to show Mike to help narrow down our final decision. (There is no way he is going to stand there and look at all the different photos I look at!). Although I loved our NH fireplace:

I think I want something clean and minimal like the rest of the house will be. Although, a stone fireplace is beautiful:

Step by Step Guide on How To Style a Cozy Corner

February 23, 2019

Are you looking for ideas to fill an empty corner?  Maybe a little space in the corner of your living room or bedroom that you are having trouble decorating? One idea is to create a cozy little niche:

I wanted to ‘dress up’ a corner in my spare bedroom. It’s pretty simple- all you need is a comfortable or pretty, (not always one and the same), chair to get started:

You can use pillows or throws, or both,  to dress up your chair:

How I am Decorating Rental Home Using What I Already Own

January 12, 2019

I thought I would share a couple photos of how I decorated the rental we are staying in with our existing furnishings. Pulled pieces from different bedrooms, living room and storage to put together a few pretty rooms.  Might as well make it nice while we are living here!

Remember the spare room we had to fix for guests coming to visit here?

Before:

I used our old bedframe that was previously in a guest room in our old home. Lamps I pulled out from storage, to work with carpet. The bedding and even window treatments are also taken from closets where I was storing them.
