  1. This is a great list. I am wondering if you have an SW color exchange for Benjamin Moore Cloud White (OC-13, or 967)? I would appreciate it.
    Thanks you in advance.
(I thought I posted this already, but didn’t see it, so posting again)

  2. hi wondering if you know of any color exchange for BM revere pewter but in Kelley Moore paints? I really love to know if there are any similar colors

  3. Thank-you very much for this list! I fell in love with the paint chip of SW Modern Gray recently, but there aren’t many ‘inspiration” photos online of Modern Gray. It was great to find out it is equivalent to Edgecomb Gray since there are many Pins/photos of that color. This has really helped in my decision making process. (my painter uses SW)
Also, if you don’t mind me asking, what is the paint color in the photo at the top? It is very pretty!

    Thanks again!

  4. Any chance you would know of a Sherwin Williams comp for BM Balboa Mist? Thanks for your help and for sharing your advice!

  5. Great list! Do you know a BM equivalent for SW Topsail?
Or a lighter shade to match BM Buxton Blue? I painted my space this colour as I loved the Yarmouth colour and thought they would look good side by side but there isn’t enough of a contrast between these two. Now I’m stumped for a softer, paler version to go with Buxton Blue.

    • One color that is a lighter shade of Buxton Blue Erika, is Ben Moore Constellation AF-540. Another idea would be to go darker than the Buxton Blue such as Jamestown Blue HC-148. Good luck!

  6. FYI: SW paint stores will duplicate any Ben Moore color, and vice versa. I have done this for many years on many projects and they are Absolutely spot on. They have the formulas for their competitors on hand.. they do this all the time! If you use Ben Moore paints and the paint store is handy to you, but you want a SW color, just ask them to duplicate the SW color you want! Easy peasy!!

  7. Oh please please I need the comparison of BM graystone and Kendall charcoal in SW colors. Can you let me know… thank you thank you

  8. Hi Kelly, I know this was written a couple years ago, but have you found a SW match for BM Halo? Thank you!!!

  9. Hi Kelly,
I like the Revere Pewter color in your photo. If I have SW Loggia in my dining room and SW Latte in my living room, would Rever Pewter be okay to put in the bathroom that is off the dining room? Or should I go Manchester Tan? The floors will be a White plank (Marazzi Dare to be bold- Uptown color) with some light greige/more towards tan… I would have a stained console and sliding barn door for the closet too (stained- light slight orange/reddish tone). Thank you in advance!

  10. Is there a SW match for BM stonington gray?
Also, which trim color would you use with stonington as the base exterior stucco color?

  11. Hello. I know this is an older post but would you know of a benjamin moore match for SW Worldly gray. I used a BM match for SW Sedate Gray in a room recently and it looks so blue green – I am looking for something just a little bit more neutral and thought Worldly Gray might work but I prefer Bm paints.

  12. Sherwin Williams match for Benjamin Moore Wolf Gray? All the painters use Sherwin Williams around here because that’s pretty much what we have but I’m worried they won’t be able to match it…it’s for the exterior of our house. Thanks!!!

    • Hi Meredith,

SW 2819 Downing Slate is a very close match with Wolf Gray. LRV is a little darker with the Downing Slate, 21 but not much than Wolf Gray at LRV 19.7. Hope this helps!

      • Thanks so much! They are very similar but the Downing Slate is a touch more brown imo, while we love the blue undertone of the Wolf Grey. We’ve decided to just use the Benjamin Moore paint in Wolf Grey to make sure we have no regrets. ?

      • Thanks for the wolf gray alternative, luck I found it with you. It was a cloudy day and I needed it right away I could not touch one close to it till I found Downing slate through you.

  13. Kelly, on behalf of every reader and inquiry I would like to thank you for your patience and consistent follow though on all the questions. And thank you for posting the list to begin with. I have been driving myself crazy trying to find the right white that isn’t blinding spotlight or yellowish with daylight yet isn’t dull drab grey at night. I started with taping together many Sherwin Williams colors onto a board to move around but I kept going back to that Benjamin Moore color I was in love with. So out with Sherwin Williams and now all my walls small living room, dining, and kitchen have been blessed with patchwork of Benjamin Moore, ugh! The whole light reflective thing is screwing with me! BUT I have to admit between the two brands Benjamin Moore colors just do something to me. Most of them look like soft butter (although colored butter). And the testers even cover my “Number 2 pencil” without primer. Is it just me? Does it stay that way so it’s worth the cost?

    • Thank you Angela! You made my day with your kind words!

I do love Ben Moore paints better- colors, coverage, dries quickly, low VOC and great colors I know and trust. I do think it is worth the money because of the quality of the product.

About LRV- the main take away is that the higher the number, the lighter the color on walls will be. Because they are lighter, light can bounce around better.

Hope this answered your question! Thanks again for your kind words!

    • Hello, please tell me which Ben Moore white you went with? I’m looking for the same – one that doesn’t turn yellowish, or drab grey at night.

  14. Hi Kelly

What would be the equivalent of BM Gray Mirage 2142-50 to SW?

We are trying to choose a cabinety color but having a hard time picking one that would match perfectly. Our flooring is Mannington Hive/Honey.

    We will appreciate any suggestions.

    Looking forward!

    Thanks!

    • Hi Kate,

The closest color to BM Gray Mirage is SW 7542 NATUREL. It is close, but there is a bit more green in Gray Wisp. What are you trying to match up for the cabinets? Not easy to match colors, because it looks like you tried but it didn’t work. How about something in a darker color?

      • We’re trying to pick some colors still. We have chosen BJ Revere Pewter for the cabinets in the main bathroom but wanted a different cabinet color in the Ensuite. We haven’t chosen our wall color but we’re hoping it will be the same that will compliment both chosen cabinetry colors.

        PS
For the cabinetry, we can choose Benjamin Moore but for the interior/walls will be Sherwin Williams.

  15. I’m looking for the color bm shoreline in Sherman williams. Can u help me with this. Thanks in advance.

    • Hi Faigy,

Some colors do not exchange very well. The SW color Big Chill SW 7648 is the closest to BM Shoreline but seems a little dark to me. Check it out and see what you think!

  16. Hi. I am not sure if this is posted already, but looking for a SW match to BM Copely gray and BM elephant tusk. Thank you if you have any suggestions!!

  17. Hi Mrs. Kelly. I am looking for a color comparison of the BM: OC-24 to SW. Would you have any record of the closest match?

    Thank you!
    Kelly

    • Hi Kelly,
Sorry for the late response, I moved last week. The closest comparison to Ben Moore’s Winds Breath OC-24 is Sherwin Williams SW 7570 Egret White. They are very close- Egret White is just a little lighter. Hope this helps!

  18. Kelly thank you for such wonderful information. We just found out our builder cannot use Benjamin Moore, only Sherwin Williams, but I fell in love with BM Tapestry Beige. Do you happen to have any recommendations for similar colors in SW? Thank you!!!

    • Hi Alexis,

The closest match to Tapestry Beige is SW Canvas Tan 7531. They are not exact, the Tapestry is brighter to me, but the undertones of green are in both.Take a look and see what you think. I hope you find this useful.

    • Hi Angela,
Gray Owl does not mnatch up well with any SW colors. The closest is SW 7671 On the Rockes, but comparing the two, I see a big difference. Gray Owl is much greener and brighter than On The Rocks. Not all colors match up well.

    • Hi Jill,
The closest color to BM Collingwood is SW 7029 Agreeable Gray, which is another very popular color. I do see a little more green undertone in the Agreeable Gray but not too much. Hope this helps you!

  19. Hi Kelly,
Wonderful info! I have SW Ancient Marble in downstairs and looking for a complimentary and equally soothing neutral to carry into my upstairs. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  20. Hi Kelly,
Do you by any chance know if there is a Sherwin Williams color to match Benjamin Moore: Sonnett?
    Thank you!

  21. Hello Kelly, just finishing up a major remodel of older home and found paint cans in the garage for BM paint AC20 Mountain Laurel. Our contractor insist on using SW. Can you advise a close match to the AC20 in SW
    Paint?

    • Hi Kathy,
Painters make life so difficult! The closest color to BM Mountain Laurel is SW 6214 Underseas. They look similar, but there is definitely more blue in the Mountain Laurel. A much richer looking color also. Not all of the colors match up perfect. Take a look at the Underseas and see what you think. Good luck with your project!

  22. Hi Kelly,

Our builder can only use Sherwin Williams, but we really like the color Balboa Mist by Benjamin Moore. Do you have any recommendations on the best color match? Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Melanie,

The closest SW color is SW 7634 Pediment to Balboa Mist but it is a darker shade. I would take a look at to compare the two to see what you think. You might be better off, if the painter insists on using SW, to get a sample can made up at the SW store using the BM color code for Balboa Mist. Hope this helps.

  23. Hi Kelly,

Like other commentors, our builder only uses SW paints and I want to use BM Sag Harbor Gray, HC-95. Can you recommend a SW color match? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Hi Lisa,

I can not find a close enough match. The closest is SW 6150 Universal Khaki which is also a beautiful color but the Sag Harbor is a deeper, darker shade in comparison with a bit more green in the undertone than the Sag Harbor Gray. Some colors just do not match well in the different paint companies. Sorry I did not have better news for you. Take a look at the Universal. If not, just tell your painter he will have to use Ben Moore paint to make his customer happy.

  24. Hi Kelly,
I was told Sherwin Williams Popular Gray would be great for my interior walls. I’ve painted sample sizes in every room but I keep seeing purple. Do you have any experience with this color showing a purple undertone or am I just seeing things? Thanks.

    • Hi Cindy,

The closest SW color to Sparrow is SW 7514 Foothills. I compared the two and they are pretty close. Sparrow is just a little darker. Take a look at Foothills and see what you think. Hope this helps.

  25. HI! Looking for a SW color match for BM Collingwood OC-28 (also known as 859

    Thanks.

Also, is one paint better quality than the other?

  26. Hi Kelly, thank you so much for this post!
Do you know what would be a SW match to BM Vanilla Milkshae? We want to use it for the kitchen cabinets but our painter uses only SW.

    • Hi Felix,

The closet SW color to Vanilla Milkshake is SW 7004 Snowbound. They are close, but I do see a bit more gray in the Snowbound. I would ask the SW paint dealer to match up the Vanilla Milkshake and they might have the formula in their computer. Hope this helps!

    • Hi Diana,

There is no color close enough to SW Kilim Beige to suggest to you. You can ask your BM dealer if they can color match up with computer. Sorry I could not be of more help.

    • Hi Mike,

A close Ben Moore color is Misted Green 2138-50. They are close but I think Oyster Bay is a bit more muted- Misted Green is a cleaner color. Compare and see what you think.

  27. So many people have asked you for the “Sherwin WIllims equivalent” of a Benjamin Moore paint. When I had selected Behr paints (simply because I had lots of Behr paint chips on hand), I went to Sherwin Williams with the Behr paint name and number and SW had the exact formula in their computer database. They made me a paint to match Behr Desert Khaki and when I held up the paint chip to the painted wall, it was an exact match. Just a hint to those who are looking for an “equivalent”. SW knows the equivalents, even though they don’t have a paint chip and name for the other brands’ names.

    • Hi Anne,

The closest Ben Moore color they are showing is Classic Light Buff SW 0050. Pretty close, but I do see a little bit more yellow in the Linen White. Take a look and see what you think!

  28. I am an artist and a color junkie. I am currently remodeling a rental property I just bought and have been obsessing over the colors of this little house for weeks now. I am having such trouble with the way light changes in the house. Truly maddening. And what’s more maddening is that there is not a Ben Moore store close by. There is, however, a Sherwin Williams store, so once again I am forced to have colors translated from Moore to Sherwin. The fact is, however, they always miss the mark by a slight margin. When you look at the two versions, you can see the subtle difference of, say, Balboa Mist a la Moore versus Balboa Mist a la Sherwin. However, what I have found is Sherwin Williams does a lovely job of mixing their own colors (though as you’ve pointed out, these are less interesting than BM’s).
So all this is verbiage is just my round-about way of saying this Blog Post is a godsend. You are an angel and a genius for putting this together. I’ve felt so much saner since stumbling on it.

  29. Is there an SW equivalent to BM Decorator White? Have a houseful of trim and molding that needs some touch up.

    • Hi Bridget,

If the BM Decorator White is already painted and you are touching up, I would keep with the Decorator White so there is no obvious difference in color. Switching paint companies always have some type of difference in paint. Better to be safe.

    • Hi Abbe,
The closest color match reads as SW 6149 Relaxed Khaki. I compared the two colors and I do not think they are very close in color.Relaxed Khaki is much greener. Sometimes best to just get the color you selected and know it will be the color you want.
      Hope this helps.

  30. I love BM paints and historic colors, but my sister moved to an area where all the paint places within a reasonable driving distance carry SW. is there a SW equivalent to BM Elmira White HC-84?

    • I’m sorry Carol- Elmira White is one of those colors that there is not a close match in SW colors. You can always ask at the SW paint store if they have the formula on computer. Be sure to test first before you paint. Hope this helps!

  31. Are you familiar with crazy horse granite ? I’m looking for a paint suggestion for my kitchen and actually total house its a new build ..

    • Hi Tina. There are so many different variations of crazy horse. To find a color, I would need to see photos of cabinets, counters, flooring, etc. I have a one question online color consult service for $55.00. You would send me photos and I would help find the best color to work in your room. Let me know if you would like to work together.
