Another Front Door Color Option

March 28, 2020

It’s that time of year again. With the weather warming, we are turning our attention to the outside of our homes. Now that we are spending even more time at home, it might be a good time to get some of those projects out of the way!

This is also the beginning of my busy season for the year. I have seen a slight drop in color consultations online, (a complete drop-off for local  visits) but there still a few I have been working on. Here is one of my favorites:

Front door

Hello Kelly,
I understand you charge a small fee for a color consult. I’m okay with that. My question is that I am having trouble coming up with a color for my front door. We are changing the front door, so this will no longer be the door that we will be using. I want a color that will make my house look elegant but not  too risky.
We’ve considered using a dark navy blue or even black. The problem I am having is the color of the brick underneath the bay windows. The color of the brick will not be changed.
I’ve included a picture of the front and back of my home, so you can see the color of the deck which matches the shingles on our roof. The first picture is not a realistic color of the shingles. They actually match the deck
.

We are open to any suggestions!
Oh and the rails on the front porch will also be changed, depending on the color of the front door.
Thank you for any suggestions you may be able to provide.

Such a beautiful home and yard!

My first thought was that a black door would be perfect. Even when I saw the roof in the back of the house and that it was not as dark as I thought, I still thought black was a perfect choice to work with the brick, siding and roof.

BUT.. .the more I looked at the front of their home and how very impressive it looked, I thought a strong, wooden stained door would bring even more interest. When I suggested it to the homeowner, she said that they had not thought about a stained door and really liked the option! This one below was my favorite and I think it is the one they are going to go with:

I have been seeing more and more stained wooden front doors and they are beautiful. Elegant. Works with many siding colors such as beige, gray, white and creams, yellows, greens, blues, stonework and even brick. One tip on the color stain you might consider- I would try to stay away from a cherry color because it may clash with siding color, (such as beiges) and also red brick.

I love the darker stains the best. Aren’t they all gorgeous? So if you are looking for a new front door color, take a look at the natural stained wooden doors. Very impressive looking! Don’t you agree?

PS If you are thinking of staining over a painted door, there are many DIY directions online you can find.

Stay safe everyone!

Sampling Bedroom Wall Colors and Sneak Peek of Our Living Room

March 21, 2020

Hey everyone! I hope you  (and your loved ones) are staying healthy and taking care of yourself during this difficult time. I thought I would share a few decorating projects I have been working on at home:

Choosing a paint color for bedroom wall:

I love our new bedroom that has lots of space, but it seemed to need some drama, something bold to showcase and highlight the room so we decided to paint the wall behind the bed. I wanted to find a color that would bring out the light green in the comforter:

Because colors show up lighter on walls than paint chip sample, I thought Benjamin Moore Scenic Drive 697 would be a good color to start with. Following my own rules I preach to you all, I stopped and picked up  a sample can and painted a poster board with Scenic Drive:

I did love the medium color with the dark wood of the bed, but I wanted to try a step up lighter to sample- Ben Moore Pleasant Valley 696:

And here are the two samples together. Pleasant Valley is on the left:

Pleasant Valley is the winner! Trying to take full advantage of my husband being home, he said he would paint this weekend- wow! Mike had a great idea- we are going to call the paint store, if they are open, and order the paint on the phone and pay for it. We will let the store know we are on our way to pick up and they can leave it outside by the door for us. Trying to keep going in this crazy time and have to be creative with thinking.  I will have after pictures of the bedroom next week to share.

Project Three: Last weekend I got Mike to paint one wall in our living room. (He is my hero lately!)  The same problem I was having with needing some interest and drama in the bedroom, I really felt it in our living room. Just kind of boring. I thought about wallpaper:

But it was going to be soooo expensive and time consuming. Plus I thought it might be too busy for the room.  Paint to the rescue! I am loving pinks and navy lately so why not paint it pink? haha:

I absolutely love it! Very subtle and beautiful. Mike likes it too. Here is a concept board I had fun putting together for our living room decorating plans:

I just ordered the fuchsia pillows today online. Can’t wait to share when room is completed!

I hope you are enjoyed! Let me know what you think of my color choices, love to hear! Thanks for stopping by.

Stay safe my friends!

Trending: Mustard Yellow Both In Fashion & Home Décor

March 7, 2020

Interesting color, isn’t it? Reminds me of a Fall color, but I have been seeing this color everywhere in clothing and home accessories!  A richer version of yellow, mustard adds warmth to a room without being too loud or bright. In many ways it can be treated the same as a neutral like beige or cream.
