Someone just threw them away! I found a fabric I loved at a good price and had them reupholstered to these beauties:

I just love them. Love the fabric. Love walking in and seeing them. I love chairs.

The room is finally coming together!

Traditional Living Room Design

February 24, 2014

I recently enjoyed putting together an online living room design plan for a traditional home that I thought I would share with you. The client sent me a photo of a living room photo that she loved and wanted to use it as her inspiration starting point(which is a great way to start):

The only furniture that would be staying in the room was her newly purchased cocktail and end tables and also her sofa:

A new paint color was chosen:

And here is our traditional living room design board:

Of course I always include the source list of products we select, which can easily be bought online. Items can be purchased all at once or a few at a time, budget and time allowing.

The client was very happy with the results and even told me she thought it looked ‘fantastic!’ Love that! What do you think?

Sneak Peak of Turquoise Kitchen

February 22, 2014

Do you remember about a month ago, I wrote about helping my sister-in-law try to convince her husband that a turquoise kitchen would look so beautiful in their home?:

I had put together some photos of turquoise kitchens which helped him visualize the room better.  Elaine loved this cheerful turquoise:

So we tried a sample board around the room:

Do you see the turquoise color coming out in the chair?

And I am happy to announce that he agreed to paint the kitchen with Gem Turquoise from Behr:

It came out so pretty! I love how well it works with both the stained wood as well as the white:

Love it! Can’t wait to see it decorated. Great job Bill and Elaine. Bill, aren’t you glad you agreed with us? What do you all think of this color with both the white and the stained wood?

# 1 Hue Is Blue

February 17, 2014

Have you noticed that most all of the major paint companies has chosen the color blue as one of their top colors of 2014?

Benjamin Moore’s Breath Of Fresh Air 806:

breath of fresh air

Breath of Fresh Air is a barely-there soft blue. Very clean and cool that works well with clean whites. I also think pairing with navy would be an excellent color combination. It is part of Benjamin Moore’s “new” neutral palette, in which the company brings together 23 neutral colors that work in harmony when connecting rooms with color or in enhancing a room’s décor and accessories.

Pantone’s Placid Blue:

Another soft pastel, the color of the sky, this hue of blue brings a sense of openness and peacefulness to any room. Pantone’s 2014 color palette is a “colorful twist on traditional Spring shades”, including Radiant Orchid, Violet Tulip and Hemlock, which is a summery ornamental green.

Valspar’s Winter in Paris:

This blue is from their Zenergy palette that serve to restore spirits with a return to simplicity. Colors range from serene cool hues to grounded earthy tones to bold traditional colors, offering a wide variety of color choices to refresh any room in the home. Trend colors in this palette include serene greens and blues and cool hues that are restorative and unpretentious.

Sherwin Williams’s Capri Blue:

Brighter than the other pastel blues, Capri is a beautiful turquoise.

The new palettes seem to shift away from gray to more blues, greens, lavenders and pinks, don’t you agree? Do you think you would like to use these lighter blues in your home? Now you do not have to take my word for it- blue is the #1 hue!

Another Option For Kitchen Cabinets

February 13, 2014

Like many homeowners, painting Holly’s kitchen cabinets are not an option at this time:

She is not crazy about the look of her wood cabinet fronts, but her husband will not even consider painting. So I came up with an idea that she loved:

What if you took off a few of the doors and had glass inserts put in?:

I would leave the bottom cabinets as is and either choose a few ‘focal’ cabinets have glass inserts put in:

Or another idea is that she could do all the top cabinets in glass. Or, some in glass and some open shelving:

I suggested she call her local glass shop who could help her with ideas and pricing. Another idea can be to keep the old cabinets in storage, (for your husband) and have new doors made with the glass.

I think the glass cabinets are beautiful and they will bring a newer, more modern look to the kitchen.

Holly’s husband has agreed to look into it with her! I will let you know how they make out.

Quick Tip When Ordering Online

February 10, 2014

shopping key

I do a lot of online shopping for both clients and myself. It is a fast and easy way to order. I always read the reviews from customers regarding the product and that one step has been a deciding factor on buying many a product or not.Customer-Reviews

A hint to be aware of when reading the consumer evaluation is the date of the  review:

By New homeowner from Haymarket, VAon 5/13/2008

Pros: Artistic Design, Area Of Illumination, Easy To Change Bulb, Convenient On/Off

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this lamp for a very traditional bedroom with a queen sleigh bed and a bedside chest. The lamp is the perfect scale for the bed and the chest. Would work equally well in a traditional living room. Both the lamp and shade are well made.

Lamps Plus great company to deal with; lamp arrived quickly and in perfect condition!

If you love the product and the reviewers agree that it is well made, then I would say go for it! Who cares what anyone thinks if you love the item. But, if you are on the fence about an item, and see that there have been no reviews in more than a couple years, then maybe it is outdated and not the best choice.

Do you take the time to read the customer reviews before you buy? Does it influence your decision to make a purchase? Just a little something to think of next time you order online.
