My Daughter’s Before & After Bedroom

July 31, 2013

Do you remember a little while ago when I shared my daughter’s (and son-in-law’s) bedroom in her new house? She had asked me for advice on helping her select paint colors and decorating advice.

This is a before picture when they first moved in:

And here is the after picture she sent me:

Isn’t it pretty?  What a lot of hard work they both put in. They did follow my advice on paint colors and chose Ben Moore Coventry Gray for the walls and  Cloud White for the cabinets.

And After:

They still have a few small projects they want to do but it already looks great. Did you notice her new pad on the window seat? I suggested she buy an extra window panel and make a new cover to coordinate.

They also repainted her old dresser in Ben Moore Stonington Gray:

Such a great job Meg and Ian! You should be so proud. I sure am! Thank you for taking after pictures and sharing. I love when people send me their after photos to share with everyone. What do you think everyone? Isn’t the room so pretty?

Dining Room Design

July 29, 2013

dining room

I have been working with a sweet homeowner that is loving all of the decorating ideas that I have been giving her while we are working on redesigning her dining room.

Her dining furniture is dark and beautiful. She has an older buffet table that we decided to paint  in Ben Moore Hale Navy HC-154 as a statement piece.

The wall color she decided on after testing with large painted boards is Benjamin Moore Smoke Embers AC-28:

It is a beautiful soft gray with a hint of blue. It will look gorgeous with the Hale Navy buffet!

She was looking for help in choosing a paint color, rug, window treatments and accessories:

What do you think? My homeowner is very happy, right Sue? :)Thanks for letting me share!

Lamps Plus Giveaway!

July 23, 2013

I recently have been searching for a pair of bedroom lamps for myself in both stores and online. While searching, look at these beauties I found:

Aren’t they gorgeous? The colors are amazing! I found these at Lamps Plus, where I always seem to have good luck finding accessories. This collection is the Color Plus™ Collection which has over 100 different Sherwin Williams and Pantone colors to choose from. Here is just a small sampling of the colors:

lamp colors

Each design is handmade to order and available with a variety of fabric and color coordinating Giclee lamp shades. The process is easy- simply choose your color, base and shade combination. I knew which base shape I wanted right away, which was the Ovo table lamp. Now on to the more difficult part of the process- how can I choose only one color out of these 100 gorgeous colors?! My idea for the lamps is that they will be going in my new redesigned bedroom which is blue and white.

The Monaco Blue would look great:

Or, this gray lamp is beautiful too:

Look at a few of these beautiful choices:

But I wanted something with a little more pop for the room so I chose Vivacious:

How is that for pop? Did you notice the fabulous shade that I also selected to compliment the lamp? This is one of my favorite ways to add the 10% accent color in the room. These have got to be one of the best color lamps that I’ve ever found and I can’t tell you how much I love them!

And now Lamps Plus wants to give one of my lucky readers a chance to win a pair of the Color Plus™ Collection lamps, which has an approximate value of $300! To enter the contest, comment below and let us know which color lamps would you choose and for which room. The contest begins today July 23 and ends Friday, July 26th at midnight. A drawing will then be held and the winner will be announced on Saturday, July 27. Only one entry per person.

Thank you Lamps Plus! Good luck everyone!

Do You Constantly Re-Decorate?

July 21, 2013

Do you like to decorate and then redecorate a room, knowing that it is perfectly acceptable to change your mind about fabrics, accessories and even color?:

Do you constantly re-decorate? I do it all the time! I am always moving a piece of furniture from one room to another room or trying a vase over on this table instead of that table. Anyone else? There are just too many beautiful color choices out there! Here is just one example from this weekend, the bedroom mirror. Here is what it originally looked like about a year ago:

Which I painted with Chalk Paint® Antibes Green:

I liked the color, but then I ordered new window treatments so I painted over again in Chalk Paint® Provence mixed with Chalk Paint® Old White:

Which is a very beautiful color. But…. I really, really love navy blue. And I can change my mind if I want to, right? So I painted the mirror again in Benjamin Moore Hale Navy:

Beautiful! I love it and that is what counts, right? Do you think of yourself as a compulsive decorator?

Ideas For That Space Above Kitchen Cabinets

July 16, 2013

I completed a Resale Ready consultation with an issue that I wanted to share. The best advice I feel I gave the homeowner’s that day was this:

faux kitchen

Please get rid of the faux greenery above the kitchen cabinets! I did not know people were still decorating this way:

faux kitchen2

If you are a reader of my blog and like to read good decorating tips, this is very important- Get rid of all faux greenery above your cabinets. The greenery look is outdated and unfortunately will not make your kitchen show well. We are moving toward a more simple and clean, uncluttered living environment. This includes your kitchen.

Now that we have covered what not to use, what are some ideas that would work? You can always add crown molding to the top of cabinets for a clean, undecorated look:

I love the look of the openness:

I  also like the idea of soft lighting along the top the cabinet, don’t you?

You can purchase rope lighting at your local hardware store and run across the top of your cabinets to get the same look.

If you would prefer to decorate with accessories, treat the area as any other flat surface in your home and style vignettes:

Use different object sizes and heights (build up smaller items with books or small boxes). Or, if you are only going to use a few items, make sure they are large enough to gain attention.

This is a new and one of my favorite looks:

All the way to the ceiling! Beautiful.

I hope I have given you some ideas to use for that space above your kitchen cabinets. I think the less to dust is best also, don’t you?
