In honor of St.Patrick’s Day, I thought I would share with you Ben Moore’s top selling greens. I was actually surprised at the green selections, because it is more of a list of colors with green undertones, rather than pure green. Below are some examples:

November Rain 2142-60 :

The above photos highlight an understated green with grey tones (or an understated grey with green undertones).

Saybrook Sage HC-114:

Again, this color can be classified as a green with grey undertones, or a gray with green undertones. The color looks dark in the Ben Moore fan deck, but as you can see above, the brighter the room, the lighter the color will look.

Another greenish gray color, Gray Mirage is a favorite neutral of Candace Olson.

Here is a pretty sage green color:

Soft Fern 2144-40:

Did you notice that all of these greens are cooler greens (not warm)?

Camouflage 2143-40:

Camouflage is a pretty, very beige-green color.

Have you thought of incorporating the Color of the Year, Emerald Green, in your Spring decorating scheme?

“Greens have been strong for a while because of interest in nature.” “Green is a color of growth, renewal, healing, unity and regeneration.” Leatrice Eisman.

Plus, it is a very dramatic, pretty color! Most agree that emerald green’s boldness should only be used as an accent. Try using it in small doses, such as accessories. Here are a few affordable ideas to bring the fresh and new color into your space for Spring:

Love that clock! They have it in many different colors.

Do you think you would like to try using emerald green as a fresh, new accent color?

Last time I am going to bother you with this contest I am in! Only a couple days left now and I am doing pretty good. I will appreciate it so much if you could vote for my entry the next couple of days! Thank you!! Smile

For The Love Of Color

Living Room Fresh Color Palette

September 27, 2012

Today I finished an online consultation with young lady from Mentor, Ohio. She wrote: “I am starting a redesign in my living room and everything is going except our chocolate brown leather sofa which is fairly new. I want to make the room look updated and fresh. I would like to stay away from beige or tan walls. Can you help bring some color in my life?”

clip_image001

Of course I can! 🙂  I put some paint colors and accessories together for her and she loved the ideas! I wanted to share with you but not exactly what I had given her. So I changed a few accessories and this is how it came out:

clip_image001[4]

What do you think? I love both the green and the blue for the paint colors. Both colors are actually darker in real life than what is seen on the computer screen. My new friend in Ohio is very happy but now is having trouble choosing between the blue walls or green! Which would you choose?

Here are the paint colors listed and where you can find the accessories:

Paint- Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray HC-146

         Benjamin Moore Georgian Green HC-115

Striped Rug- Rugs USA

Mirror- Shades of Light

Solid Blue Pillow- Crate & Barrel

Oliveri Green Pillow- Crate & Barrel

Nesting Tables- Crate & Barrel

Lamps- Lamps Plus

Throw- Crate & Barrel

Before & After

DSCN0881

My husband’s nephew Jonathan and his wife Megan recently built an addition on their existing home. They gained three bedrooms, a big new kitchen, dining room, playroom and living room. They are a young couple with a little 3 year old sweetheart named Kailey and her ten month old little brother Cameron. Meg and I were talking at a recent family gathering and I told her that I would love to help her pick colors for her new home!

The above picture is their new den/family room. Below is the before picture:

One reason I love the color Ben Moore Fernwood Green is because it works well with so many other colors. I knew the color would be great for a young family that will be growing and will always give them the flexibility to change any item throughout the room.

In the photo below, I wanted to demonstrate how a color will always lighten when painted up on the wall. See how much darker the sample is against the wall?:

DSCN0880

It is also a beautiful color for a room with a lot of light. Below is a picture of the kitchen before:

36130002

Meg had a sample of her countertop when we choose colors so we used that to help select a color for the walls. Here is the kitchen below that was painted Shaker Beige:

DSCN0883

Do you see the red wall? Here it is before painting:

And here it is with some personality!:

Meg wanted a fun color that would ‘pop’ so your eye would be drawn forward from the kitchen into the next room. I think the BM Caliente AF-290 did the trick and worked beautifully. Don’t you love her mirror art? Looks great!

Here is the master bedroom before:

And after painted BM Wyeth Blue:

Below is a picture of Cameron’s room before:

And after. I love this color! Philipsburg Blue HC-159. They love it too!:

This picture came out a little fuzzy below, but I wanted to show you how well it works with the Fernwood Green (color brought up the stairs):

DSCN0893

Meg and Jon plan to use this room as an office someday. Did you notice how the color looks different in the different lighting?

I saved the best for last. Here is a picture of the Princess Kailey’s room before:

Below is Kailey’s room after painting with Ben Moore Angelina 1376:

The color in the photo looks pinker than the actual color sample.

DSCN0900

Look how pretty it looks where her mom put the stencils on her headboard. And here is the beautiful princess resting for just a quick minute:

DSCN0901

She would not let me take picture of her unless she was jumping on the bed! So I did get quite a few motion shots. And here is sweet, little Cameron:

DSCN0908

I really had a fun visit with the family when I came to take pictures. Jon and Meg are so pleased with their new home and the new colors which really makes me happy. Kailey was sad when I had to leave, but look at the picture she made for me!:

I hope you enjoyed the tour! What do you think of our color choices?

Best Wall Color For Oak Cabinets

June 10, 2012

freshhome.com

One question I seem to be asked frequently from readers is “What color works best in a kitchen that has oak cabinets? I cannot/do not want to change my cabinets at this time.” Which color would you suggest?”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                     furniture4world.blogspot.com

All woods have undertones. Oak has yellow undertones that we need to be aware of. If you want your cabinets to ‘pop’ off the wall, then I would suggest a  blue or violet color which is the complimentary (across the color wheel) color of yellow. But most people do not want their cabinets as the main focus of the kitchen.

susanjablon.com

I also feel blue in a kitchen gives you more of a country look:

google image

As I posted in my blog Best Wall Colors for Stained Trim , I typically do not like to suggest using a white paint with lighter wood cabinets for a few reasons. One-white has different undertones that do not always work with the yellow wood. Secondly, I personally do not like the look with no contrast since it looks a little too pale for me.

Yellow seem to be the color of choice for many people that have lighter wood cabinets. Yellow might work but my but only concern with yellow is that this color doesn’t really create any personality in the room. Without any contrast, the room tends to look a bit too boring for my taste.

So, what is my suggestion for a wall color when you have oak/light cabinets?

hgtv

green 005

So green is my first choice when looking for a great color to work with oak or light wood cabinets. My color advice is based on working with oak cabinets. The floors or countertops were not taken into consideration for this example.

Do you agree  green is the best color for kitchens with oak cabinets? I also like a few terra cotta colors but that is for another day! Comments?
