Review of Gray Undertones

February 3, 2016

Undertones. We have learned enough about color to know we can not ignore them. But I have found that knowing the undertones of a color makes the color selection process much easier and less stressful.

So I thought I would do a little review as a reminder of the undertones of gray. Gray is still very popular right now and we should be aware of what makes up the color so we can be educated when choosing a color for our home.  Gray has the undertones of blue, green, violet and taupe:

The most popular grays with blue undertones are Coventry Gray HC-169:

Blue & Beige Bedroom Consultation

January 28, 2016

I have been working online with a woman from Chicago on her bedroom redesign. She found me on Pinterest on my design boards here.  Her design plan is coming out so nice I just wanted to share. Her bedroom was already painted in Revere Pewter and she just needed a little help finding bedding, window treatments and a few accessories that would work well together with the Revere.

Time For New Lamps?

January 20, 2016

I would like you to take a minute and go take a peek at your living and bedroom table lamps. Are they still pretty? Are they more than 6 years old? Do you still like them??

k lamps

Lamps, believe or not, is one of the most dated items I find in homes when performing home design consultations. I think many people just don’t notice their lamps. They are just one of those accessories that has been laying around for years.  I want to tell you that one of the quickest and easiest ways to update a room immediately, is banishing your old lamps and finding new pretty lamps. They are not so expensive anymore! I found these at Home Goods for only $ 60.00 each!:

Target has great lamp selections and also Overstock, Lamps Plus and Wayfair  to just to name a few. And shipping is free with most companies today when ordering online. They really do make the room perk up and give the room instant interest and personality!

If you are keeping your lamps out of love, I would keep them and be proud to show them off. But if you are not attached to your table lamps and have not noticed them in awhile – except for dusting around- maybe it is time to buy yourself a new pair of pretty lamps!

How do you like the look of my new website?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks everyone!

Emphasis On Wood

January 10, 2016

A ‘trend’ I have been seeing everywhere is Wood. This is not a new trend of course, but at this year’s High Point Market that I attended here, Organix, (made from organic materials), was very much in evidence with many of the vendors:

Since attending the market, I have seen products made from wood not only in lighting and carpeting, but emphasis on using wood and Nature in our interiors is also being seen in accessories, furniture and art:

Isn’t that such a great piece above? So unique and original. It looks like part of a sliding door but I think on it’s own it would still be a beautiful focal point.

I am really loving the Live edge or natural edge which is a style of furniture where the carpenter incorporates the natural edge of the wood into the design of the piece:

Gorgeous! After visiting a local sawmill this past Fall, I have so much admiration for these beautiful, natural pieces of wood.

It really hit me how popular this trend is becoming when I saw these accessories in Target yesterday:

Have you brought any earthy textures or organic forms into your homes? Wood is interesting, natural, touchable and dramatic! Do not worry about mixing styles or materials either. Wood works with glass, metal, other woods, etc. It will distinctly bring character, shape, warmth and texture into your home. Don’t you agree it brings in personality?

The Inspired Room Book Tour

November 6, 2015

The Inspired Room2

Melissa Michael’s new book The Inspired Room was released this week, (isn’t the cover beautiful?) and to celebrate, she’s inviting her blogger friends to share posts about how we were inspired to decorate a room in our home.

The room that popped immediately in my head was my guest room redesign. I recently finished decorating a bedroom in our NH home that I would finally be pleased to have guests stay over.

This was the guest room when we first moved in:

Pretty sad guest room. Then by chance, I found this great headboard screen at Pier1 and the room took off from there. It was my inspiration piece for the room! So much better looking after don’t you agree?:

I found a great turquoise color I loved using the BM Color Capture App here. It is an easy tool to use to help you find the perfect paint color. I used many items that were already in the room and ‘borrowed’ the turquoise chair from another room. Love that free shopping!

I think the room came out nice and comfy and is ready for guests. Plus our view out the window is a bonus!:

You will love Melissa’s new book! It is filled with beautiful photos just like her first book, Love The Home You Have . I bought my copy this week and am enjoying each page. I love her laid back style of writing and decorating. And the photography is gorgeous!
