Back Home From High Point Market 2015

October 18, 2015

I arrived home today from my adventure at High Point Market and Furnitureland South with my IRN friends from all over the States and Canada. What an exciting and educational trip I had!

I am going to give you all the details later this week but I wanted to share a few highlights because my head is just bursting with information.

The best part of my trip was meeting Candice Olson. She is my all time favorite designer:

candace

She is just as charming and funny in real life! We were able to ask her questions about color and design which I will tell you all about this week. She said that people are still asking her about Chico. haha

The first two days of the conference were held at Furnitureland South which is the largest furniture store in the world. The place is enormous! We had several great, educational seminars from companies such as Houzz, Resale Ready® Home Staging, an Art Gallery, a new design show that is launching soon, Take Five and we also learned about biophilia. No it is not a disease! It actually is what the design world is moving toward for the future.

High Point Market was amazing! I explained here how large the market is and I saw for myself just how big it actually is! I will let you know all the new trends and answer all those questions you and I wondered about.

Although I had a wonderful time, I am glad to be home and happy I will be able to share all the latest new trends and ideas with you. See you tomorrow everyone!

Visiting Open Houses

January 29, 2015

open house

Do you ever stop and visit a new construction Open House, just to see what it looks like inside? I love to tour new houses and look for different decorating ideas and inspiration. Last week I visited a couple homes in Sarasota, FL.:

Blue Wall

This room is pretty but there is one big color faux pas. Can you see what is not working in the room? I DO like the navy blue wall with the white molding. That is something that can be duplicated in your own home. Very nice!

I thought this was a clever idea to use when staging a closet:

You can really use your imagination using colorful bags with contrasting tissue paper to stage different areas in the home. (Although the shirts were distracting to me. What do you think?)

I did notice quite a few of the new construction homes are painted in a grayish beige, greige. This looks like Benjamin Moore Cedar Key.:

Here it was painted in another home:

Which surprised me actually. I visualized Florida homes with all soft blue walls such as Ben Moore Quiet Moments 1563 or Sherwin Williams Sea Salt SW6204.

I am trying not to be too picky here, but I would not suggest using this color of window treatments in the room above with greige walls, (and ok- they are also too thin!).

I did like the wall art with the two sunbursts together:

At our hotel, I thought this artwork display was really great:

Creative idea for a large wall!

I think it is fun visiting Open Houses to peek inside for decorating ideas! How about you?

Wall Paper Love

[pinterest]I can not believe how much I am loving wallpaper again:

I find myself visiting Cole & Son and Graham & Brown often, looking at the beautiful patterns and colors and wondering where could I hang wallpaper in my home:

I went on the Graham & Brown site yesterday and learned that for the first time ever, a wallpaper was chosen as Wallpaper of the Year for 2015, Northern Rose:

“Northern Rose was chosen from our design archive, the beautifully painted fresh design in vibrant pink and explosive blue with lush embellishments was picked as it represents the optimism that is spreading across the country as a whole, whilst retaining a certain British, vintage charm.” The company is based in London.

I absolutely love it! I don’t know if it is the blue and pink colors or pattern, but I really want to use this somewhere. How about a car:

Cute! I think it would look great in a bath or powder room. Happy and colorful! Or an entry would look fabulous, don’t you think?

Have you used wallpaper lately? It is easier to install these days and there are gorgeous colors and patterns to choose from. Important question: Does anyone know if it is easier to remove the new wallpaper today than in the old days? Does anyone remember that job?!

Art In Bloom

June 25, 2014

This past weekend I enjoyed a walking tour of Jackson, NH to see how individual gardeners put together their floral interpretations of art:

It is held by the Mountain Garden Club and this year marked their 10th anniversary of the walking tour, which is their annual gift to the valley. Art In Bloom is a walking tour of eight sites in Jackson where pieces of art are interpreted through member crafted floral arrangements:

They are all so unique. I loved this simple display:

This above was named ‘Garden Party’. She even painted the picture!

Many different and unique ideas were used as art:

This display had a nice story how this picture was her first art work purchased at nine years old:

A sign I saw on my walk I thought was cute:

This is beautiful:

If you are wondering like I was, why the artist did not use poppies like in the artwork, here was the answer:

Funny!

I was telling everyone that I was glad we did not have to vote for a favorite! Too many that I really liked:

I really loved the simple displays.

This piece was really great:

Don’t you think they did a wonderful job?

A fairy garden!:

Loved this one! I met the artist and she said that everything here was made from items she found in her yard and garden.

I want one of these birdhouses:

They sell these handmade birdhouses locally. Look at the details:

Amazing! So talented.

This was really cute:

I know I said that I did not have a favorite BUT… (maybe):

Totally awesome. The photographer was there and told me he walked by an alleyway in Venice and saw these three women sitting there. He asked permission to take the photo. I love it, it is so interesting to me.

I hope you enjoyed! Do you have a favorite?

Bedroom Redesign Inspired by Art

Isn’t this artwork beautiful? A perfect way to start a color scheme in a room. Here is the other piece of the set:

I am helping an online client with her bedroom and I thought these prints would be a gorgeous inspiration. We talked about paint colors also and since I have been obsessing over this bedroom photo:

I suggested she leave her white walls as is and just paint the ceiling in this Ben Moore Porcelain Glaze CSP-550:

That would look beautiful don’t you think? I recommended all white bedding with these blue shams and a duvet folded on the end of bed (in water):

And here is our design board:

Just lovely! What do you think of painting the ceiling of the bedroom instead of the walls in the blue?

My client does not mind that I share these pictures with you, but asked that I not give out all of our resources. Thanks for understanding!

Plain, simple, uncomplicated. You all know how much I love a pretty vignette!  How about in the kitchen?

Kitchen countertops should be rather simple to decorate. We already own tons of accessories in our kitchen to use. Plus, the only simple rule to remember is to not over-accessorize. Keep it clean and simple:

Here are a few ideas I hope might give you some design inspiration:

Isn’t that gorgeous above?! A corner of the kitchen.  I love when I find such beautiful pictures to share with you!

Notice how the kitchens are not at all boring using just a few simple items:

I tried to use only photos of kitchens that actually looked lived in (coffeepot on counter, etc.), and not styled for a magazine (although they probably were!). I just want you to notice that the beautiful rooms we love are decorated very simply.
