Color Swap

January 20, 2015

I think it is so interesting that some of the colors between Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams are so similar. For instance: Ben Moore Revere Pewter HC-172: revere pewter

Sherwin Williams Collonade Gray SW 7641:

sw collonade

There is actually a list I have been adding to over the years. These colors not only look the same they also match based on their RGB values. A color’s RGB value indicates its red, green, and blue intensity. Each intensity value is on a scale of 0 to 255, or in hexadecimal from 00 to FF. Ben Moore Palladian Blue HC-144: bm palladian blue

Sherwin Williams Rainwashed SW 6211: sw rainwashed

So similar. This must be why these two colors are both so popular! Ben Moore Manchester Tan HC-81: man tan   Sherwin Williams Softer Tan SW 6141: SW7641sw6141 Maybe your painter only uses Sherwin Williams paint but you had your heart set on BM White Dove OC-17 for your trim color. SW has a match that looks exactly the same. It is called Greek Villa SW 7551. Ben Moore Classic Gray OC-23: bm classic gray

via

Sherwin Williams Zurich White SW 7626: sw zurich white

via

Pretty remarkable how close the colors look. Ben Moore Raspberry Truffle 2080-10: bm raspberry truffle

via

Sherwin Williams Poinsettia SW 6594: sw poinsettia

via

Ben Moore Wythe Blue HC-143: bm wythe blue2

via

Sherwin Williams Quietude SW 6212: sw quietude

I hope you enjoyed! I love looking at colors different ways. I have a whole list if anyone is interested. I also wanted to share with you that I received an email yesterday that stated, “We’re writing to let you know that you’ve been voted by the Houzz community as a winner of our Best of Houzz 2015 awards!” I was so excited! Hooray! houzz badge I am off to Sarasota, FL tomorrow. I am hoping it is sunny and warm! Thanks everyone!

  1. Congrats Kelly on the Houzz award! I also wanted to thank you SO much for these color swaps. I admit that when I find the color I want, sometimes when another company has a ‘match’ I’ll actually pick the color by its name. 😉 That way when someone says “Ooooh I love that color. What’s it called?” you can reply with something that sounds as gorgeous as it looks. You can bet if I really loved F&B’s “Mouses Breath” paint color for a room, I’d be looking for another ‘color match’ with a different name. LOL!

  2. Another great post Kelly! I just might be a little obsessed with paint colors. I would love to see your whole list of similar colors!

  3. How do I get a comparison chart of BM and SW….trying to pick paint colors now and our contractor prefers SW

  4. Is it still possible to get that comparison list? I had my whole house picked out in Sherwin Williams and my painter uses Benjamin Moore.

  5. I’ve always bought SW paint and even when I’ve seen a Behr or BM one I just tell them the color. They have all the formulas and can produce most companies paints.
