A Statement Mirror in Every Room

January 13, 2016

What is the one accessory I suggest using in every room as a great statement piece?

A mirror! Mirrors are a decorator’s best friend, and with good reason — a well-placed mirror makes the most of a room’s natural light, enhances views, opens a small space and adds sparkle to décor.

I recently read an article from Houzz that stated that one of the main design trends we will see in 2016 is Statement Mirrors in the Bathroom:

So long, medicine cabinets. Hello, statement mirrors. Think large wood-framed beauties, backlit modern marvels and ornate vintage gems that boost style in a bathroom. Houzz

I think unique mirrors look good in every room, including the bathroom! I posted here on how to update your bedroom with mirrors. I think they are so important in a room’s decor that I even DIYed a couple projects for you on how to make a beautiful statement starburst mirror here and here:

Here are a couple mirrors I found, all under $200.00, that will help fill up a large wall perfectly:

Pretty on a bedroom wall, living room or dining room focal wall. Another idea is using a mirror in a gallery wall arrangement:

Round and curved mirrors help break up a group of squares/rectangles of art pieces and makes the arrangement more interesting:

And I love, love, love using super large mirrors in a room:

Look how pretty these mirrors are for only $30.00 a piece:

A pair would work great on a wall with a large piece of art in between.

Imagine all the design possibilities with this piece of art/mirror:

Gorgeous! I think mirrors are an inexpensive way to bring some great drama into the room. Whenever you are in different stores like Home Goods, Target, Pier One, etc. look at their selection of mirrors to find some great unique pieces. Fun!

  1. Love these images! I really love the bathroom ones– I’ve been wanting to upgrade my bathroom and I think a great mirror is a good way to start!

  2. I still love that room you did with the blue rug!

We staged a home yesterday and all I could think was: I need a great mirror for over the fireplace. Alas, we had to make due with a great round metal piece without a mirror in it.

    • Thanks Beth! That mirror was a great find for the room. We actually had two we loved and she actually taped the two sizes to see which mirror would fit best. She was a dream to work with!

  3. I absolutely love all of the examples above and how they incorporated mirrors into every room. I think that the only place that I have one in my house is the bathroom. However, those mirrors are plain, rectangle and traditional. I definitely think that I should start looking for some pretty good mirror designs like the ones up above and have those replaced though. //www.hekglass.com/residential-services

  4. I honestly had never really thought about mirrors as a necessary decorating tool until I was in my own place. Everyone knows that mirrors belong in the bedroom and bathroom, but as these pictures prove, decorative mirrors can enhance any room. I personally have found good reason to have more mirrors, be they small or large, for the sake of checking teeth or hair. //glassguysnj.com/Services.html
