Again this year it was about the green undertones rather than actual green hues. Saybrook Sage HC-114 is still on the top selling list as is Gray Mirage 2142-50, Camouflage 2143-40 and November Rain 2142-60. New to the list this year are Dry Sage 2142-40, Woodlawn Blue HC-147 and French Canvas 1514

Benjamin Moore’s Flower Box

December 18, 2013

Have you used any of the colors from Benjamin Moore color collection Color Stories? They are all such beautiful paint colors:

Color Stories Flyer

A couple years ago I painted a wall in my home with Baltic Sea CSP-680:

It is such a beautiful color. (I keep forgetting to take more updated pictures of this wall!)

One color I have loved from the first time I flipped through the new fan deck, is called Flower Box CSP-530 from the ‘Violet Twilight’ collection. Ben Moore’s description explains the color story best:

‘Like the layers of color in an evening sky, this palette creates a sensational narrative on the violet-purple theme. Ranging from deepest amethyst to a dream-like pale violet, a story unfolds that includes beautiful blue-tinted variations.’

I suggested this color for a children’s playroom recently and wanted to share the photos to give you another great color option for your home.

Isn’t it beautiful? I love it and best of all, so does the client! I can picture this color in a bedroom or office also, can’t you? This color works so well with the white trim, but I think it would also look great with stained trim.

The magic of paint! Thanks for letting me share Rosie! And thank you for trusting me to choose a great color although it is not a tried and true popular color. I hope we have inspired others to give this color a try!

Shades of Purple

December 14, 2013

purples

An inquisitive reader wrote to me this week and said that she did not understand how the two purples of the year 2014:

Could look so different!

Look at how many purples are in this a chart of Pantone:pantone purple

via

I think the easiest way to explain why they look so different is to look at a color wheel:

via

Purple is a range of hues between red and blue. We have violet, a secondary color, which is what most of us see as the actual color purple. Now see how the blue violets are closer to blue, therefore has more blue in them? That is why some purples look bluer, such as Exclusive Plum:

And the closer to the red side of the color wheel, such as Radiant Orchid, the color looks pinker/redder than other purples:

Does this make sense? Do you see why they can appear so look so different?

I have always loved the cooler side of purples (blues) such as Ben Moore Luxe AF-580:

I have not ‘warmed up’ to the pinker color of purple yet. What do you think? Which is your favorite shade of purple?

Are you looking for ideas to purchase a hostess gift for a Christmas party you are invited to? I have a couple parties I am attending this year so I thought I would share a couple good ideas I found that I am considering. These are ideas around $20.00 each and will be easy to find to purchase:

Domino: The Book of Decorating: A Room-by-Room Guide to Creating a Home That Makes You Happy

Such a great book. One of my favorite decorating books that also makes such a pretty coffee table book. Filled with inspiration, decorating tips, details, color and so much more. I think it would make a great hostess gift! You might want one for yourself if you have not read it yet. A beautiful coffee table book is always a big hit.

Pretty Dishcloths & Towels:

Either Holiday or everyday, it is not something we buy ourselves enough. I love a pretty towel to look at on the counter. don’t you?

Potted Herb Plant:

Plant a couple basil plants, (you can find basil and other herb plants at the grocery store) in a pretty planter and you have a simple, beautiful gift to bring for the hostess.

Calendars

So many gorgeous desk and wall calendars of every subject for the home or office. The only problem will be is which one to choose!

How about a fun game? A pretty scarf is always appreciated as well.

Do you have any other ideas to share? I usually try to buy things that I would love to receive. I try not to spend too much, but I still want it to be the best gift!
